1. Having a good parking spot, but knowing that when you leave and come back it won’t be there.

It’s literally the worst. Now you’ve parked in the furthest parking spot away from your dorm, and you have to run in the dark with the mace in your hand just in case.

2. Telling yourself every night that you’re going to go to bed early, but then never actually doing it.

Oh come on. Nothing is better than spending late nights playing Just Dance or watching an amazing movie with all of your best friends. Next thing you know, it’s 4:53am and you’re questioning whether you should just stay up and go to sleep after classes are over.

3. Hanging out in your best friend’s room without your best friend there.

I mean, maybe this is just a girl thing, but having that bond with your best friends is so great. Sometimes they’ll leave their door unlocked in case you get out of class early and decide you want to sleep on their floor while they’re still sleeping. Or sometimes they know you get out of class earlier than them, so you’ll wait for them alone in their room. Best friends are great.

4. 1am fast food trips.

Well, the campus café is definitely closed at 1am, and you’re starving. The Lord has blessed us with Whataburger’s that are open 24 hours.

5. Waking up every day with the intentions on doing your overflowing laundry, but always pushing it off.

And then you forget that you don’t have any clean jeans, so you wear dirty ones and hope that no one notices.

6. When everyone wants to go out to eat off campus, but you’re poor as heck.

iHop sounds great guys, buuuuttt…

7. Having to walk all the way to the front of the dormitory because the side doors lock at 1.

Pro: Hanging out with your friends late at night. Con: It’s cold, and now you have to walk like, another 500 feet.

8. Group study sessions.

Group study sessions are more like, who can stare at the computer screen the longest without trying to engage someone else in conversation. Or, “Hey! Look at this new snapchat filter!”

9. Spontaneous adventures.

You know how that paper is due tomorrow at midnight? Yeah, well everyone is going ice skating tonight, and that paper can wait.

10. Knowing that you’ve found lifelong friends.

Yeah, high school is pretty great. Maybe you found your best friend sometime before now. But by the time you’ve made it to college, you’re just about done growing into the person you’re meant to be. Now you’re living in a building with 200 other students, and you’re doing life with these amazing people. Living on campus is such a great experience, and it’s one of the few things that you’ll never regret.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
