10 Truths About Being A Low-Maintenance Girl
Bảo-Quân Nguyễn

Being a low maintenance girl is so underrated. There are so many better things than having a huge rock on your finger, or driving the newest and brightest car in town, or always dressing to the nines. Though those things do have a bit of flare and attention drawn to them, there are more important things in life. Here are 10 things low maintenance girls know to be true.

1. Wearing jeans and an old tee will always be the most comfy outfit.

Though you do like putting on a dress and going out with your head held high and your purse on your side, nothing beats putting on your worn (but favorite) jeans and a camp tee. You can wear that outfit anywhere and feel the most comfortable, and more importantly, the most like yourself.

2. Dates are easy to plan.

When you say, "I don't care what we do. Really," it's not a trick. You could sit and read together for hours. You could pack a lunch and watch the clouds all day, You could go bowling. You don't care what you do, as long as you and your S.O. are together. Also, you don't care where you eat, as long as you get fed.

3. Shopping is not on the top 10 favorite activities list.

Honestly, unless you're going out for a purpose, you don't go shopping. It's almost always correct that, yes, you can live without that $20 top your friend bought last week. Unless it's a book store or a thrift shop, browsing for hours is not your favorite thing to do. In fact, it's one of your least favorite past-times.

4. You don't have to "put on my face" before you leave your house.

Makeup isn't part of your everyday routine. Your face might be breaking out, but the customers at work don't care about that. Your makeup collection consists of foundation, eyebrow gel, mascara, and a highlighter stick. Haven't you heard? The natural look is totally in right now.

5. That being said, you're the first one ready.

When you go to coffee with friends or get ready with your sisters, you use your four-step makeup routine, you throw on some jeans and maybe even a dressy blouse (depending on how you feel), and head out the door. Not only are you the first ready, but you're even the first to arrive.

6. Your jewelry collection doesn't take up a whole wall.

You throw on the same pair of diamond studs and necklace that go with every outfit and every color. It's far too time-consuming to pick out the "perfect" necklace to match your earrings, bracelet, your whole outfit, and your belly-button ring. Come on people, there is really not time to dwell on that miniscule stuff.

7. Gifts don't need to be extravagant.

If someone gave you a bouquet of daisies they picked in the nearby field, a card made from scratch, or something from the dollar section at Target, you would love it all the same. It's truly the thought that counts.

8. You're always lending a hand.

Being low-maintenance doesn't make you kind, but it usually does mean you'll make time to help someone in need. Not only is it no big deal to move plans a bit, but it also makes you feel a little better once you help someone who really needs it.

9. You're ready to take off anytime.

If a friend invites you out on a trip, all you really need is a toothbrush and a change of clothes. It doesn't take you a day or two to get a suitcase ready, but a 15-20 minute heads-up and you're out the door on a new adventure.

10. Your food choices are practical.

You don't feel the need or desire to spend $70 at a fancy restaurant when you can make the same meal at home for $10. I mean, you get to be in the comfort of your own home while you eat a pretty darn good meal that you made. Also, carbs mean very little to you because, well, how long can a person really go without pizza?

With that all being said, being a low-maintenance girl not only saves time and worry, but it's also pretty amazing. It makes life simpler for you, makes your boyfriend thank you for keeping his wallet fairly full, and your friends will love you for being so easy-going. If you're a high maintenance girl and want life to get a little easier, loosen up a bit with some tips about how a low-maintenance girl lives her life. You won't regret it.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
