10 Things You Know To Be True As A JP Stevens High School Alum

As an alumna of JP Stevens High School who will be seeing all of her fellow alums this Thanksgiving break, I thought it would be a great time to reflect back on the memories and experiences that I still hold near and dear to my heart as a college student.

1. Reading this article sounds like those “You Know You Go to JPS when…” that they had in the school newspaper.

2. You’re prepared for the radiators to always overheat your dorm because that’s what high school was like.

3. Your body has already undergone Freshman 15 because of those Gertrude Hawk sales for Odyssey of the Mind.

4. And now, you’re craving those Gertrude Hawks (only a few more days until break).

5. Your morning sprints to class because you snoozed your alarm are impressive and you now realize what those Beep Tests in gym class were preparing you for.

6. Your tiny dorm room seems so spacious compared to the new half-size lockers they put in on the first floor.

7. MLA format comes naturally to you.

8. You’re ready to carry around your stuff all day long when you have back-to-back classes. As a JP alum prior to the Macbook Air-era, you know what it’s like to lug around your giant U.S. History textbook.

9. You can deal with awful college WiFi because your high school never had service for any type of phone company.

10. You are proud of where you came from and the high school that taught you so much. You are more than prepared to work hard and follow your dreams in your new school!

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.

Being a music major is not all kicks and giggles. In fact, there are days when I question my sanity and doubt myself as a musician. I know I am not the only one going through the struggle, and so here are 13 GIFs that I know my fellow music majors can relate to...
