1. When you say you’re from Atlanta, you’re not.
We all know that saying you’re from Atlanta is the easiest thing to say to someone from out of town, unless of course they end up being from there too, then you can expose yourself for the Norcross, Roswell, Alpharetta, East Cobb or Marietta resident you really are.
2. You know the Shane Co. commercial by heart.
I’ve know this one since I was six, and it’s the original.
Visit the Shane Company at Marietta, Alpharetta, Kennesaw and Morrow open weekdays till 8:00, Saturday and Sunday till 5:00, online at shaneco.com.
3. Chick-fil-A is the holy grail of fast food.
They are the innovation of the fast food industry, and outside or inside the perimeter you can probably find them on every corner. Zaxby’s chicken is not, cannot, and will not ever be the same.
4. There is nothing to drink but Coke or sweet Tea.
Don’t even think about Pepsi, that’s sacrilege.
5. You were probably born at Northside Hospital.
Northside is the staple of Atlanta whether you’re in Forsyth or Buckhead, it’s where the babies are!
6. Unless you have to, you wouldn’t be caught dead on 400, 85, 75 or 285 from the hours of 3:30-7:00.
Rush hour in Atlanta is relentless, and the traffic can make your ride two exits away last 40 minutes.
7. Don’t stay on Peachtree street or a derivative there of to get anywhere.
There are 71 streets just in Atlanta with a variant of the word “Peachtree” in it, so its technically not reliable to get you anywhere.
8. Snow is a monumental occasion
It happens just about every four years, and school kids are out for a week because of two inches snow, we even once had “Snowpocalypse” when people were stuck on highways for up to 15 hours. So the next time you see Darren Knight’s “Southern Mama When There’s A Snowstorm Coming,” it’s real.
9. Every School field trip includes Fernbank, the Aquarium, or the Varsity.
We enjoyed it but come on, the aquarium is only fun so many times.
10. Everyone is nice, literally everyone.
Maybe it's southern hospitality, maybe it’s something else, but you’re sure to get a smile, someone opening a door for you, and a yes ma’am or sir anywhere you go.
