10 Towson Student Struggles… Yes, You Aren’t the Only One Struggling

Advice from a Sophomore

1. Student Parking

If you live in an off-campus apartment or just commute, this is a total nightmare! Parking at Towson determines if you are even going to class or not.

2. Being Healthy

Yes, at Towson we have plenty of hills, and we even have Burdick Hall. But when was the last time we chose a salad over Chick-fil-A, the Den, PTux, and Paws? Exactly, because they are super cheap. You might as well go to Au Bon Pain for their fresh salads, however they aren’t open on weekends.

3. Laundry Days

Whether you use quarters or a OneCard, spending large amounts of money on laundry can be a pain. Sometimes you’ll ask yourself, “should I wait until next week? I think I have some outfits left.” Unless you go home every weekend and do laundry for free.

4. The Wi-Fi

I know I’m not the only one who struggles with using ‘tu-secure’ or ‘tu-openaccess’ and getting frustrated. Unless you were blessed with unlimited data, everyday is a struggle. You can walk to your bathroom and the wi-fi will just go off. I mean, at least we can use xfinity on campus and watch our favorite shows.

5. Towson Weather

Don’t even bother using the weather app on your phone because it is all lies. It can say that it is 70 degrees, but when you step outside it feels like -267177 degrees. Whoever said that silly term “dress appropriately,” has obviously never been to Towson.

6. Meals & Points

Most students on campus have the 14 weekly meal plan. (If you have 19 or unlimited, your parents have blessed you. And people usually blow off their points. But places on campus (*cough cough* PTux) can be very expensive and forces you to use two meals just for one! As a fellow sophomore, always go to the Union for free food to save some meals. Remember points do not reset, so save up! And be conscious about your meals as well.

7. The Shuttle

Yes, it is a struggle to find a time to take it and if you miss it, you have to wait 30 more minutes. The schedule times online are useless and the shuttle app needs fixing. Also, there are times where the shuttle is extremely crowded and you won’t find a seat. All I have to say is plan accordingly folks! And if you can walk there…just walk!

8. Buying Textbooks

The U-Store is probably the WORST place to buy/rent books. You might as well spend at least $500 on books that you’ll probably use for two lectures or not at all. Try using online sites such as Chegg.com and Amazon.com. Did I mention that if you are a student, you get Amazon prime for FREE for the first 6 months? You’re welcome freshies!

9. Changing Your Major

Yes, it’s okay to change your major. I did a few times, and I’m not in a major that I love. It’s okay to explore classes and try things that you like/don’t like. But if you are a late junior and senior, you might want to start picking up the pace.

10. Being Broke

This is the time to be social and make connections... No, seriously. Ever been so broke that having $32.50 in your bank account makes you feel rich? Try getting an on-campus or off-campus job for some cash. You can’t always depend on your parents. And ask yourself, is that sequin dress worth it?

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.

Mistakes are something we all make, no matter how old we get. Most of the time, the mistakes we made are little and sometimes due to something out of our control. Yet, there are mistakes that are bigger than others. Personally, I have mistakes that I wish I could go back and undo. Here they are:

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
