Sometimes it's the little and simple things in life that can make someone's day better. Not only can you make a difference in someone else's life, your acts of kindness can give you that boost you need.
1. Smile at strangers.
I found that smiling more really puts me in a better mood, the same goes with seeing smiles! In many instances, they're contagious. Even if someone doesn't smile back, don't let it discourage you! On days where I'm really struggling, a stranger's smile really cheers me up.
2. Tip your server a little extra.
Servers work extremely hard and usually make less than minimum wage. Something as simple as a few extra bucks can really help them with bills, food, etc. It really helps them feel like their hard work is appreciated.
3. Buy a homeless person food, clothes, or other necessities.
I can't drive past a homeless person without at least stopping and talking to them. (proceed with caution, of course and make sure you're in a public setting.) Sometimes all people want is someone to talk to. I usually don't like to give out money for obvious reasons, but I like to go and buy a hot meal, nonperishables, drinks, or blankets and pillows.
4. Compliment someone.
Like someone's outfit? Tell them! Like someone's smile? Tell them? Like someone's hair? You guessed it...tell them. Most people love compliments, even the smallest one can turn a bad day into a happy one.
5. Let your loved ones know you're thinking about them.
Text a friend/family member saying you hope they have a great day, that you love them, or anything uplifting to remind them that you care. Heck, if you have the time, call them! Hearing your voice might make it a bit more personal to them.
6. Donate some items you don't use.
Old books, clothes, funiture, toys, etc. would be great things to give away to your local thrift store, church, or charity. Your "junk" may not be of use to you, but they would be to someone else!
7. ADOPT, DON'T SHOP!
When it comes to getting a pet, I highly recommend going to your local shelter instead of buying off of a breeder. Shelters are becoming more and more overcrowded with animals who need homes. Adoption fees can range from $20-$80, much less than a breeder.
8. Don't use excuses.
Blaming your spouse, boss, friends, or family is fruitless and won't get you anywhere. Instead of pointing fingers and making excuses about why you aren't happy, successful, or progressing in your personal or professional life, own your mistakes and learn from them.
9. Be open-minded.
In conclusion, don't be so prude and judgemental of others. Encourage different lifestyles, thoughts, opinions, and practices. As long as it's not causing harm to anyone. Embrace change. Don't understand something? Ask about it, educate yourself! There's nothing wrong with wanting to understand something.
Long story short; don't be rude, think of others, go out of your way to help...it costs nothing to be a good person!
