Christmas time is one of my favorite time's of the year. Throughout the years my family and friends have created traditions that have made the holidays a happy time.
Here are 10 things that everyone should try this holiday season to get into the Christmas spirit:
1. Watch as many Christmas movies as possible.
From TV marathons, to re-watching your favorite movies. During the holidays it’s perfectly acceptable to watch an abnormal number of movies on a weekly basis
2. Make a gingerbread house
Let’s be honest, they never turn out like the picture on the box. But it’s a great way to have bonding time with family and friends (as long as you don’t get frustrated when your hard work collapses the next day).
3. Make/Decorate cookies
From gingerbread men to elaborately decorated sugar cookies, making and designing cookies is a great way to destress from all of the Christmas craziness while also creating delicious things that will make great gifts.
4. Look at Christmas lights
Some of my favorite Christmas memories growing up was when my family would drive around neighborhoods and look the lights. It’s inexpensive, can be done with a car full of people, and helps get everyone in the Christmas spirit to see all of lights and decorations that people have put in their front yards.
5. Wear flannel pajamas
Cold nights are the perfect time to pull out those embarrassingly patterned flannel pajamas that you secretly love.
**can apply year round if you’re always cold like me.
6. Avoid crazy Christmas shoppers
In my opinion, nothing ruins Christmas cheer quite as much as seeing people honking, yelling, and being impatient with each other while buying Christmas presents. The best thing I can think to do to avoid this is to either do your shopping online, or get it done before the crowds hit and you find yourself turning into a scrooge.
7. Own an ugly Christmas sweater.
You may only get to wear it once or twice a year, but finding a tacky Christmas sweater at a thrift store will come in handy at Christmas parties (and save you the awkwardness of people mistaking your favorite sweater for an ugly Christmas one)
8. Eat/Drink Peppermint flavored everything
Move aside pumpkin spice, now that the cold weather has arrived and the Christmas decorations have appeared, you’ll be able to find a seemingly endless variety of peppermint flavored foods and drinks.
9. Tell your loved ones how much you care about them
In case you don’t already do this on a regular basis, the holiday season is the perfect time to let people know that you care. All it takes is a card or simple phone call to make someone’s Christmas season.
10. Don’t stress out
Christmas time is busy and full of things to accomplish. Don’t let the overwhelmingly long list you have of to do’s cause you to stress or not appreciate how much joy this holiday can bring.
