10 Times You'll Miss Your Mom When You Go To College

1. When you need a hug.

No matter how many people there are at school who love you, there is nothing like a hug from your mom to make a bad day better.

2. When you’re trying to prioritize.

Sometimes, when it’s a thursday morning and you’re headed to your 8 am on two hours of sleep, you wish mom could have been there to remind you not to go out on a school night.

3. When you’re sick.

Being sick while your mom is there to take care of you is bad enough, but being sick by yourself if so much worse. Especially when all you want is a cup of her special chicken soup, and to be babied until you feel better.

4. When you’re doing your laundry.

If you’re like me and you had never done laundry until you got to college, then you know how much it made you miss your mom. Somehow all of your clothes look cleaner and are folded neater when she washes them.

5. When you need to break down.

There is nothing better than having your mom there to rub your back when you cry, somehow it seems to make everything better a lot faster.

6. When you’re sick of college food.

It doesn’t matter how good the cafeteria food at your school is, there will come a point when you get tired of it and would kill for your favorite dinner cooked by your mom.

7. When you need somebody on your side.

Whether you’re arguing with friends or a professor is being unfair, you know that your mom will always have your back.

8. When you want to talk to someone who will listen.

Sometimes it’s hard to explain yourself to other people, but your mom is different. She knows you inside and out, and you know that there is nothing you could say to her that she wouldn’t want to hear.

9. When you stop believing in yourself.

There will be times during your four years of college when you feel like giving up and you need somebody to believe that you can succeed even when you don’t. Moms are the best when it comes to this, and it will make you miss her even more than you already do.

10. When you need to feel unconditionally loved.

No matter how many people care about you, there is something special about a mother’s love that can’t be replaced, and you’ll miss it every day until you’re home with her again.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
