Moana is, without a doubt, the funniest, strongest, and most independent character that Disney has ever created. She's not a princess, but she's a millennial through and through. Here are 10 times that Moana showed us that she is a true millennial.
1. When she taught herself how to sail.
With the abundance of technology we have, we only have to search YouTube or WikiHow to learn how to do just about anything.
2. She always took care of Pua and Heihei.
With 12% of millennials being vegetarians as opposed to 4% of Gen X'ers, we definitely care about animals, too.
3. She took on Te Ka by using kindness, not violence.
Millenials are the least violent generation on record.
4. Moana cared for her people more than anything.
Even when her heart yearned for the sea, she knew that her people needed a leader and was willing to give her dream up so she could lead her village. Similarly, research also shows that millennials care more about the community than individual needs.
5. For most of the movie, Moana doesn't know what her life's purpose is.
She is torn between taking her place as the chief of her village and her love for the sea. Recent polls from CNN's research shows that most Millennials are unsure of what they want to do in life.
6. But, in the end, she chooses to become a wayfinder because she knows it's her true calling.
Research by Bentley University shows that most millennials wouldn't keep a job if it went against our own values. When we know what makes us happy, we know it's the right choice, just like Moana chooses the sea because it was what she truly loved.
7. She didn't need a man in her life to know who she was.
Millennials are more concerned with our own personal goals than finding a relationship. We take care of ourselves and we get the job done, thankyouverymuch.
8. She's confident.
9. She's compassionate.
10. She's adventurous.
So are millennials - we know the way.
