The life of a private university student often differs dramatically from those who attend public universities. How so? Read on.
1. No one's heard of their school.
"Where are you going to school?" And then a repetition of the school, as if they didn't hear it right. "...Howard Payne University?" And of course, the follow-up question: "Where is that?"
2. No one's heard of the town their school is in.
...not that an answer to "where is that?" is always a clarification. You might be explaining your school's location for a while.
3. All two washing machines are taken.
Small schools have a reputation for everything being...well, small. Including the laundry room. Despite the washing machine to student ratio being supposedly proportional, it doesn't come as a surprise when one person with two loads decides to do laundry and take up the whole room.
4. The weekend comes with nothing to do.
Small towns are often idealized in the eyes of former big-city students until they encounter the weekend. Before long, these private school students aren't surprised when they have to take an hour-long road trip to do something fun.
5. The professor remembers them.
Good? Possibly. Bad? ...depends what you did.
6. Their class is tiny.
It's a small, small world.
7. There's no parking spots left.
Dang, the university held yet another private donor event and all of a sudden all 20 parking spaces have been occupied. Better yet: the dorm with about 50 students and ten spots to park.
8. Student organization only have a few people.
They were really excited to join the anime club, but after the first meeting it's just them and the group leader.
9. Your neighbor has a Corvette.
It is a private school. Some people are just barely affording their education, but some do come from wealthier families. It's not a surprise that some students have the latest tech, nice clothes, and fancy cars.
10. An extra fee was added to their tuition.
Another $100 "experience" fee? They've almost come to expect it by now.
