How many times have you sat down to watch a cartoon you loved as a kid, only to get a few minutes into the episode and think, "This really went over my head when I was younger. How did they get away with this?" Or, alternatively, how many times have you been watching an animated series, not expecting much, when it took a sudden turn? Probably quite a few.
