It's one of the most terrifying things. You roll over in bed, open your eyes, and see a spider tip-toeing across your pillow, less than three inches from your face. Or you find one shuffling across the ceiling, swinging down from a tree, maybe even trickling down your leg. Whichever way you find these creepy creatures, it's always startling, and many people react in different ways. Here are some common reactions and thoughts one may have when a spider appears.
1. Scream.
2. Gasp.
3. Maybe I'll just leave and let someone else find it and deal with it.
4. But then it could crawl into my stuff, lay eggs and I'll just find thousands of them later.
Or it could follow me.
5. I need to be brave and deal with this now.
6. Contemplate: Should I be a good person and try to remove the intruder safely?
Or should I just throw a shoe at it and hope for the best?
7. Scan the room for something to kill it.
Release it back into the wild with without taking your eyes off of the eight-legged horror.
8. Ew -- don't touch me (as you are trying to get rid of it.
9. If you are releasing it safely -- there ya' go, be free!
10. If you are killing it: die!
11. Ew, I'm never wearing this shoe again.
If you're one of the brave souls who actually confronts the spider by either capturing it and releasing it or killing it, you deserve a standing ovation. Many probably just run away in terror.
