For every girl that wears makeup and shops in Sephora, you know the pain of going in there only needing a few things and some how walking out of there with way more than what you planned on buying. Buying makeup is one of my favorite things to shop for but we all know the hefty price tag that comes along with buying it. It is also very easy to go overboard while shopping for makeup. Here are just a few thoughts most girls have when shopping in Sephora.
1. I’m only here for one thing and one thing only
Usually when I go in to Sephora, I’m specifically only going in there for one or two things. If I just go in to Sephora to browse, I know I will end up getting things that I don’t need. I have to go in there with blinders on and focus on getting the things I need rather than extra items that I know I don’t.
2. But that new eye shadow palette is really pretty
Makeup brands are constantly coming out with new products, and I am always interested in testing them out. One of my favorite things to buy is eyeshadow and when a brand releases a new palette I just have to have it. They’re almost like collector’s items to me; I love the feeling of opening a brand new palette and using it for the first time.
3. No, I don’t need this new lipstick
Lipstick is also one of my favorite things to purchase. Brands are also always releasing new lipsticks; new formulas, new colors, and all new packaging. The latest trend in lipstick are the liquid lipsticks that go from liquid to matte on your lips. Of course, most of the top makeup brands are competing against each other to release the best formula. Whenever I go in to Sephora, I just have to try out each brand and see for myself which formula is truly the best.
4. But this is limited edition and I just have to have it
When an brand releases a new item that is limited edition, they mean limited edition. Usually, once the item is sold out, it’s gone. It’s a rare occasion when the brand actually makes the item permanent so if it’s something you think you want, then you must get your hands on it. I’m all for getting my hands on a limited edition item. There’s something about being able to have something that other people couldn’t get their hands on that is so rewarding.
5. Well, since I’m buying all this other stuff, what’s one more thing?
Once I start adding items to my basket, I tend to go a little overboard. I get to the point where if I’m already spending all this money, I tend to say “what the heck” and just get it all. This probably isn't the best way to shop for makeup when it’s so expensive, but I just cant help myself.
6. How much more money do I need to spend to reach VIB status?
I reached VIB Rouge status a few years ago and ever since, it’s been my determination to keep VIB Rouge status. Once you reach it, it only lasts one year. In order to keep it for another year, you must spend a certain amount of money by the end of the year to keep your status for another full year. Each time I go there, I strategically plan my purchases out so I can assure that I will reach my goal by the end of the year. It’s actually a good deal to be VIB Rouge. You receive free two day flash shipping on all online purchases, no matter how much money you spend. You can also receive free makeovers all year, any day of the week at the Beauty Studio for any occasion. You can even go in there for no reason just to get your makeup done… how cool is that?
7. What color is my skin tone?
I’m never sure what color my skin tone is. Even after I’ve been wearing a foundation for so long, I still doubt that the color does not match my skin tone. I don’t know how to exactly match my own skin tone. So, whenever I can, I tend to ask the color specialists in Sephora to match my skin tone to my foundation. It seems that every time I do this, my skin tone is a completely different color. How can my skin tone change so dramatically from month to month? I’m always convinced it’s just so they can get me to buy a brand new bottle of product.
8. Can’t I get this stuff cheaper at the drugstore?
As much as I love the name brand makeup at Sephora, I always tend to wonder what the difference is between the high end makeup in there versus cheaper drug store brands that you can find at Wal-Mart. I’ve put a lot of them to the test, and truthfully speaking, most of the products are much better at Sephora and if you can afford to dish it out, then it’s a much better bang for your buck.
9. I only came in here for one thing, why do I have a basket full of items?
I always tell myself that I’m only going to go into the store to buy the items I need, and somehow walk out of there with way more than what I planned on spending. I never have a problem with it; it’s usually my parents who lecture me about my makeup addiction. They just don’t seem to understand that I need it.
10. My mom is going to kill me if I buy this, but I don’t care
Usually when I go into Sephora my mom is on me like a hawk. She knows just how much makeup I already own so when I mention that I need something in Sephora she just doesn’t think it’s necessary. I don’t think she understands that certain items run out, and I need to replenish those empty items. She likes to make sure that I’m only going in there for those specific items and nothing else. When I see something that I want, but it’s not something I need, I come up with an excuse to convince her to let me get it. “Oh but it’s brand new and I don’t have anything like it. This will be the last thing I get, I promise.” It’s usually always the same excuse; something that will convince her in that moment to just let me get it.
So, to all my fellow makeup junkies who know the wonderful struggles of shopping at the Sephora, I’m sure you can all relate to having to buy new makeup. It’s one of the best feelings in the world, even though we know it’s totally going to break the bank. Opening a new palette and seeing those brand new pans with untouched products, definitely brings me to my happy place. So ladies, may your eyeliner be sharp, your contour be blended, and your highlight be seen from the moon. Happy shopping!
