Breaking a bone is a common thing that can happen to a lot of people, but there are certain things that you will only understand if you have ever broken a bone. I mean it's not the best thing ever, but it can be quite entertaining. I've recently broken my toe and I completely forgot how hard it is to do stuff while hurt.

1. Casts are the WORST thing ever

Having to go and get a cast on or get a cast taken off is no fun anyway, but having to wear it everyday sucks. Showers become so much harder because you can't get it wet. Also, forget about trying to scratch an itch under your cast because that just will not happen.

2. Writing becomes 10x harder

If you've ever broken your finger or had to have your finger in a cast, it becomes so much harder. You never realize how much you use all of your fingers until one or more of them is wrapped up and no longer useable.

3. Crutches are good arm workouts

Let's be real for a second. Crutches are a double-edge sword because you need them to get around, but they kill your arms. You can't just use the crutches the way they are either. You have to have towels or something soft wrapped around the tops of the crutches, so your armpits don't die.

4. Anything can become a pain causer

Literally anything. Any random thing from a backpack to another person could hit whatever you broke and pain just shoots through you. You start to get really cautious of pretty much anything, in order to save yourself from pain.

5. Athletic tape is your best friend

If you break your toe or finger and you can't get a cast athletic tape saves your life. This becomes about the only way that you can wrap it up and you end up carrying a roll with you, wherever you go.

6. No shoes is the best thing

Broken foot or broken toe, it becomes so much easier to walk without shoes. Shoes also just require a lot more work, especially if you have to limp somewhere, not having shoes on makes it a lot easier.

7. Trying to walk anywhere takes a lot of effort

Even if it is just to the kitchen to grab something in your room,or all the way across campus to get to your class, it is so much more work when you're injured. You never realize how easy it is for you to simply walk somewhere until it hurts to walk normally.

8. Explaining how you broke it gets tiring

Once people see that you are hurt in any way everyone has to know what happened to you. After you've explained it a handful of times, you reach the point of wanting to make up some crazy story just so you don't have to go through the pain of explaining what really happened.

9. Doctor's appointments become annoying

Because you have broken something, doctor's appointments become mandatory and part of your life... at least until you heal. This gets old really fast. From x-rays to cast application, going to the doctor for a broken bone is never fun.

10. Electric carts at the store are the BEST thing EVER!

This has to be the best thing about breaking a bone and not being able to walk normally because these carts are awesome. Being able to ride around Target or Vons in one of these motorized scooters makes shopping so much more interesting.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
