In high school, I worked at a restaurant as a hostess and it taught me a lot about myself and the public. Working in a restaurant is the ultimate customer service experience, as you work with hangry people and have to diffuse tense situations. Here are 10 things only people who have worked in a restaurant will understand:

1. "You told me my wait time is 20 minutes. It has been 20 minutes."

angry inside out GIF by Disney PixarWait times are an approximation, not an exact science. Thus, we do not always get them right.

2. "Can I have a booth?"

Of course, you have to sit a customer where they want but requesting a booth often messes up the rotation of servers.

3. Non-slip shoes

A staple of the food industry to make sure employees do not fall in the kitchen, but also the ugliest shoes known to mankind.

4. "People who came in after we did got seated before us."

Usually, when this happens it has to do with party-size and we simply do not have a table big enough for one particular party.

5. The love-hate relationship with reservations

Not having reservations leads to long wait times, but having reservations leads to open tables and sometimes no-shows.

6. Working holidays

Restaurants are busier on holidays because everyone has off except the restaurant employees. Fun!

7. Customers coming in 5 minutes before the restaurant closes

Walking in 5 minutes before a restaurant closes honestly sucks for the staff because it delays their closing duties.

8. Having to always wear your hair back

Sorry, my hair looks better down.

9. Not being able to understand customers over the phone

Hello? Sorry, can you repeat that? Sorry, what?

10. Rainy days = long wait times

Wait times increase even more when it rains because people decide to sit at their tables for 2 hours.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
