10 Things You'll Miss the Most About Home

Because college is great but home is the best!

10 Things You'll Miss the Most About Home

It's that time of year again in the life of a college student... The countdown to Thanksgiving break, the storm clouds of finals week looming on the horizon, and finally winter break! For me, it seems like the fall semester has flown by. Thinking about the holiday season, I can't wait to be home with my family and friends. Here are the top ten things every college student misses the most about home while away at school.

1. Your bed.

Yes, your mattress pad that you got at Bed, Bath, and Beyond may be super comfy on top of the "mattress" you have at school, but nothing beats falling asleep in your own bed.

2. Not having to wait forever for your Brita filter to give you filtered water.

Don't get me wrong, I strongly appreciate my Brita filter; it turns the bathroom tap water into water I feel safe drinking. But it honestly takes forever for the water to drip through the filter. At home, filtered water just comes out of the fridge.

3. Not having to walk substantial distances to get food.

Making the long trek to the dining hall to eat is not my favorite thing to do. While I'm at college, I long for the simple days of just walking into another room and raiding the pantry or fridge, or both.

4. Your pets.

Honestly, pets are the greatest and it's a shame college dorms don't allow pets. What would be wrong with having a few cats, dogs, goldfish, and birds around?

5. Falling asleep easily.

Don't get me wrong, all of the people that live in my building are great. But sometimes, your neighbors running, yelling, singing karaoke, and watching a movie at an extremely high volume at 11 pm doesn't make falling asleep the easiest task.

6. Not having to be super quiet when you wake up in order to not wake up your roommates.

When I wake up, I tend to be pretty noisy. So I have to try really hard not to wake up my roommates in the morning, whereas at home I don't have to be as quiet.

7. Hanging out with your best friend from back home.

I miss my best friend Nikki while I'm at college like crazy! So when I do get to go home, it's a party everyday we get to see each other.

8. Home cooked meals!!!

I don't even think this reason needs an explanation.

9. Driving around and knowing exactly where you're going.

Yes, I still need Siri to tell me how to get to Target from my school.

10. The parents!

Ever since I left for school, I've missed my parents so much! I just want to hang out with them all the time.

Ah, home. I'll be back soon!

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
