10 Things You Understand If You Have A Sister

One thing that I’ve come to understand in my twenty years on this Earth is that your sister is your first and longest friendship. Having a sister is a true blessing, and despite the occasional argument and annoyances that come along with having a sister, you wouldn’t trade anything for having someone there to go through this thing called life with you. Here are 10 things that you’ll relate to if you have a sister …

1. Someone To Do Things With

When you have a sister, you also have a shopping partner, a dinner date, and basically a go-to person for anything! Here’s to having someone that is always down to get queso with you or see that new movie.

2. “Borrowing” Clothes

This can be a blessing and a curse. Having a sister also means you have an extra closet to turn to when you can’t find the right thing to wear. It’s awesome having two closets worth of clothes, yet sometimes items will mysteriously go missing…

3. Protectiveness

Older sisters usually have the universal characteristic of being protective of the younger siblings. Of course she loves to pick on you and put you in your place, but if anyone else tries to do it they have to deal with the wrath of the oldest. It’s only okay to make fun of you when she does it amiright??

4. Wisdom

Sisters provide wisdom about life, school, boys, etc. Having a sister entails talking to each other about things 100% honestly. They really don’t care about sugar-coating anything because they know you better than that and want the best for you, even if that means saying the hard things at times.

5. Privileges

If you’re the youngest child you know this one all too well. The oldest somehow always manages to get first choice for everything just because she’s older. And don’t even think about sitting in the passenger seat of the car when a parent is driving you two. That seat is clearly reserved for the oldest.

6. Family Functions

Family functions make you extremely grateful to have a sister because they’re forced to go through the awkward conversations and interactions with you. Plus you’ll always have a companion to sit with you at the “kids” table.

7. Getting Ready Together

One of the best bonding experiences sisters can have is getting ready together. Regardless of the type of event, nothing is better than blasting music, sharing a bathroom, and getting #glamorous with your sis.

8. Looking Like Twins vs. Are You Even Related??

This is one of the first comments that people make when they initially meet your sibling. Unlike other siblings that get asked if they’re twins, my sister and I look completely different. So much so that when people first meet my sister they usually don’t make the connection that we’re related, let alone sisters.

9. Arguing

Your sister somehow knows how to push all of your buttons. Out of everyone, you probably bicker most with your sister. But even with all of the arguments, you still know deep down that you love each other.

10. Best Friend

There’s no other bond like a bond between sisters. You’re forced to be friends from the very beginning. But honestly, what would you do without each other???

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
