10 Things You Should Never Say To Your Photographer

I'm begging you. Don't.

As a photographer, these are real things people have said to me during shoots. I wish I was kidding, so here is a wonderful PSA, for those who are booking a photographer in the near future. Please, I'm begging you do not say these things.

1. "So....I'll be able to see these in an hour?"

No. No. No, I'm not a miracle worker, I shoot then I edit them, then you'll see a select few. My turn around is a week on a good day, not an hour. In fact, I probably won't look at these until tomorrow.

2. "Can you take one on my phone?"

I'll say yes to be polite, however, please, I'm begging you let me take the photos on my DSLR, not your iPhone so your Snapchat followers can see what you are doing at this exact moment.

3. "What camera is that? It takes really nice pictures!"

"A camera didn't make a great picture any more than a typewriter wrote a great novel." - Peter Adams

4. "Can you take a picture of me like this"

Well, the lighting isn't the greatest like this, and this will most likely be your least favorite photo but I'll agree, again to be polite.

5. "You charge how much?"

Well, you see camera lenses aren't cheap, photoshop isn't cheap, the price of props adds up, and oh? Did I forget to mention I work by myself?

6. "I'll just edit them myself."

Well, define edit, do you mean you'll put them through photoshop or are you going to put an Instagram filter over my photo and call it editing?

7. "Your job is so easy!"

See number 3.

8. "You must make a lot of money!"

Clearly, you have no idea how much one lens costs.

9."Can I see the photo?"

Asking me this promptly after I take a shot will cause me to just laugh awkwardly and avoid the question because I have no idea what that photo looks like, I'm focusing on my next shot.

10. "Anyone can be a photographer with that camera."

Anyone can call themselves a photographer for sure. But again, it isn't the camera that's making the picture you like. Like other forms of art, photography is a talent.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
