Packing for college is exciting, stressful and bitter sweet because you are buying things to go along with your new independence you are about to receive at the end of August. It was about a year ago I was watching YouTube videos and pining everything college related on my Pinterest, I had no idea how to adult and what I needed in order to sustain my existence here on earth. Instead of asking experienced college students I looked at ever “What to bring to college” list the Internet has ever had, the problem with this, is that every list was different and all made sense at the same time. When you are checking off items from 5 lists, you tend to buy more than needed and find yourself in need of two cars in order to move (This was my reality). So I am here to help save you some time, space and money on your great move.

1. Your Entire Wardrobe

Okay, believe it or not you more than likely will have no choice but to come home on all those unnecessary breaks throughout the school year which arises good opportunity to bring clothes back and forth for the appropriate season.

2. Your Book Collection

I’m sorry but there is no time for casual reading. Instead of reading how you can be more Parisian, you will be reading all about the structure of a plant.

3. A Printer

A waste of space and comes with an anxiety attack when trying to connect to Wi-Fi (because you are too lazy and want wireless), leave it at home. Printing will end up costing you more after buying it and having to constantly buy ink than just using your campus printers.

4. Valuables/ Important Documents

So as a new independent adult, you will forget to lock the door then wake up thanking God you are alive. You will invite strangers into your room because of course, you trust them and want your room to be the hang out spot (Don't do it), and even though I am telling you this, you will still do it so just leave all the things that make it easy for someone to steal your identity or things you treasure the most at home.

5. Lots of School Supplies

There is nothing more I find satisfying than getting new stationary and supplies for school but with the fact you are now paying for school you want to save as much as possible so start with supplies. To be honest, you collect more pens from club fairs than ones you have accidently took when borrowing through grade school (For some that could be a lot). Also, most of the work you do is on your computer, so the need for tons of notebooks, pens and highlighters are not necessary.

6. Excessive Kitchen Supplies

All because you told yourself you were going to get up early and make yourself an energizing clean smoothie or a nice cup of coffee to have while planning your day (Just call yourself a liar) you end up bringing so many kitchen supplies. The reality here is that will never happen more than once, you will not make your own food instead spend the first semester trying to get your money's worth at the dining hall and by the second semester you find yourself not able to look at the dining hall and end up at McDonald's late at night without any memory of walking there.

7. Duplicates of what your Roommate is bringing

I mean it goes back to elementary school. Just be nice and share; sharing is caring and cheaper.

8. Unnecessary Decor

Look I love décor and frankly tend to buy things for a house I don't have but when it comes to the little space and wall you get to live in for 9 months, you want to make it homey but it’s the same when picking friends “quality over quantity”.

9. Alarm Clock

Using your phone works just as good and you can set more than one at a time, which is a life savor because you will sleep through your first alarm sometimes. Also sometimes alarm clocks just set off when they want to and your neighbors will not appreciate that.

10. Your Parents

Unless you want your mom writing on everyone's white board in the hallway and taking chalk to the street in front of your dorm (Not from personal experience at all) act like flash and say goodbye. Some days you will miss them more than others, and they will miss you too but it is time for you to start paving your own path and start "adulting" .

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
