1. They’re loud

It’s not even that it’s loud every night, it’s that there is always noise. I just want complete silence literally all of the time. Is that too much to ask?

2. High School Experience is Relevant

I did a double take on someone’s resume because they had mentioned organizations they were on in high school before I realized that was still perfectly acceptable then. No matter what honors or award you received, as soon as you hit sophomore year it’s completely meaningless.

3. They Go Out All The Time

Don’t get me wrong, I love Whataburger, but not EVERY night. Also, when do you sleep? I know your classes are easier but, damn. Maybe I'm just boring. Also, I have no idea what these kids do at Target but I swear they go every day.

4. “My classes aren’t even that hard”

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHjust wait.

You're not sure what exactly it is, but despite being practically the same exact age you just—you worry. Like what if they get hurt? What if they drink too much? Are they eating enough? How's their sleep schedule? Honestly, every Friday night you just:

7. How Confusing Planning Your Life Was

Oh, it still is, that doesn’t go away, but at least you come to terms with your inability to adult. No one knows what they are doing. No one.

8. They Pair Off in Winter

Once the temperatures drop it’s like they’re afraid that if they don’t cuddle with someone the harsh winter air will freeze them. I swear right after Thanksgiving—bam-- instant relationship. Like, do you, find your love and happiness but chilllllll.

9. They Ask for Advice

And it’s probably just because you’re the nearest person, but you tell yourself that finally someone recognizes your aged wisdom.

10. The Joy in Their Eyes

Even the quiet ones are still so excited about campus life and meeting new people and doing new things. It’s so fun living in a community where everyone is at the same transition point in their life, even if you aren’t. It’s like watching the little baby sea turtles find their way to the ocean. I believe in you, tiny confused little sea turtle.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.
