These things are so last year.

10 Things You Need to Leave in 2016

I'm sure we can all agree that 2016 was quite the year. Here's 10 things you should leave in 2016 if you want 2017 to be your best year yet.

1. Regret

You can't touch the past, no matter how much time is spent dwelling on it. Everyone has things they want to change, decisions they wished they hadn't made or words that they ache to take back. Time spent regretting the past ultimately is time wasted. Regret holds you back in extraordinary ways.

2. Toxic people

Cutting people who aren't good for you out of your life is hard. But once you do, notice how much easier it is to breath without that heavy weight in your life.

3. Fad diets

'Tis the season for the diet industry! January is the month for weight-loss related New Years resolutions. While getting healthy is always a good idea, crash dieting is a disaster waiting to happen. Before you download a calorie counter app or embark on a no sugar, low-carb diet, try to make simple changes to your life- like more vegetables and regular exercise. An lifestyle shirt is much more sustainable longterm than any fad diet.

4. Procrastinating

We all do it. And we all really wish we didn't when we're slaving over a paper that's due at 8 am the next morning. This semester, try to manage your time better by breaking up larger tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks and tackling projects headfirst, instead of leaving them for the last minute.

5. Gossiping

Gossiping is so last year. No likes to be talked about, so why are we so quick to talk about others? Try to get rid of this bad habit.

6. Comparing yourself to others

I'm sure everyone's heard the cliche, "comparison is the thief of joy", but that couldn't be more true. Comparing yourself to others is absolutely useless. You have one body and one life, and that'll never change.

7. Excuses

You're only hurting yourself. Instead of making excuses, vow to do one thing a day that will get you closer to your goals.

8. Fear

Fear does nothing but hold you back. It serves no purpose. It's okay to be scared, but at some point, you have to accept that fear and do it anyway. No one is immune to fear. Let that universal truth comfort you, get scared and confront your fears anyway.

9. Not living in the moment

The past is gone, and the future isn't here yet. The only moment is right now. It's all that exists, so you better make the most of it.

10. Negativity

It's so easy to be negative. It's being positive that's difficult. When everything feels wrong, it's so difficult to look at things from a positive light. But wonderful things can happen when you change your perspective.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
