10 Things You Know To Be True If You're Arab
Rosanna Sankari
1. You have 5 million family members. No I am not exaggerating; this might even be an underestimate. You have aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, great aunts and uncles, second, third, fourth and maybe even fifth cousins.

2. You always find out that you are related to every other Arab.

Every time you meet another Arab five minutes later you find out they are related to you someway, somehow.

3. Fighting over how to pronounce different Arabic words.

In the Arab world, different countries have different dialects. One region always thinks they speak better Arabic than the other.

4. The only sleepovers you were allowed to have were at your cousins house.

Never were you allowed to sleep over a friend’s house from school. Your parents only allowed you to sleep at your cousin’s house.

5. When your leaving someone’s house and your mom said goodbye over an hour ago.

You’re getting up to leave and you think your mom has finished talking since she said goodbye already. No, no, no, you are still in the same place you were an hour ago because your mom is still talking and has said goodbye 5 times now but sill continues to talk.

6. When your parents are calling overseas and scream on the phone.

Literally they scream on the phone so that the whole country can hear them.

7. When family members try to set you up with someone and marry you off.

Marriage is very important in the Arab culture and there’s always that one aunt that tries to introduce you to someone who she thinks is right for you.

8. Watching super dramatic soap operas.

If you thought Days of our Lives or General Hospital were bad, you’ve seen nothing yet.

9. Having to kiss everyone when you say hello

In the Arab culture it is customary to kiss on the cheek when greeting someone. But you must do it to everyone that you see, even if you do not know him or her.

10. Getting caught talking about someone.

When you’re in public and you are talking about someone to your friend in Arabic thinking that no one else will understand, but the people around you end up being Arab, oops!

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
