10 Things you Know To Be True If You Grew Up In Gilbert, AZ

G-Town for the win!! I have lived here my whole life and if I am being honest it is one of the most boring places, but it is home. I could never imagine growing up anywhere else. If you are like me and call this place home you know these things to be true:

1. The biggest rivalry is between Highland High School and Gilbert High School

Everyone looks forward to the rivalry game, and everyone knows who it is between. Tigers for the win! BLACK AND GOLD!

2. San Tan mall is the place to be.

This mall was the place to be in junior high, now as adults it is the place to avoid on Friday nights.

3. "Let's meet under the water tower"

That famous water tower in downtown, everyone knows it, everyone can see it. Because it is so ginormous, it makes perfect sense for it to be the meetup place.

4. Coffee Rush after school?

Gilbert High alumni know this one. Coffee Rush is that hipster coffee place that is perfect for an after school hangout. You could make it there and back in 10 minutes, it was perfect for ditching school. Now if you go, you are almost guaranteed to see someone you know.

5. It's your birthday? Better go to Joe's Barbecue for the trifecta of deals!

Joe's Barbecue is already amazing, but going on your birthday is even better!

6. 90% of the people you know are Mormon.

We all know it's true, I am just pointing out facts.

7. You know that "Gilbert" smell.

It is hard to explain, but we all know that infamous "Gilbert" smell.

8. It is basically a ghost town after about 9:30pm.

This town literally rolls up and shuts down after around 9:30pm, all the kids go home and no one is to be found.

9. The Constitution Fair is the biggest event of the year!

For some odd reason Gilbert puts on a Constitution Fair every year, and for some off reason it is something almost everyone goes to. It is a huge event.

10. It is still that basic little farm town.

No matter how "hipster" we think we are, Gilbert will always be that little farm town.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
