10 Things People From Holt, Michigan Know Beyond A Doubt

The 4.3-square-mile town south of Lansing known as Holt, Mich., is called home to 24,000 residents. This community, known as the Holt Rams, the 517, and the 48842, is the source of many traditions, fun events, and original customs that only Holt-born residents know, such as...

1. People who come and visit our high school are amazed by the size and beauty, giving it the nickname of the "Taj Ma-Holt."

2. You're probably a Michigan State fan; it is basically in our backyard. Going along with this, you probably know two or more people who are season ticket holders for one or more Michigan State sports.

3. You're all too familiar with this Facebook page...

4. The Holt Hometown Festival is the most fun we ever have in this town, filling the streets with parades, reunions of those who have moved away, beer tents, festival rides, food, and fireworks.

5. You're not sure if you're suppose to call this road M-99, Eaton Rapids Road, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, or Logan Street.

6. Construction is always taking place in our town. If they aren't tearing up the ditches on the sides of the roads or constructing the new Ram Trail, the township is paving out new parks that nobody uses.

7. The only roads you need to know to function in Holt are Cedar Street, Aurelius Road, Willoughby Street, and Holt Road. You can get anywhere knowing these roads!

8. You are not impressed with the tourism aspect of Lansing. You grew up here, your first field trip was probably to the Capital, and you frequent the restaurants and bars in Lansing as it is. When people are surprised by and starstruck over Lansing, it's just our neighbor to us. We love our neighbor and it isn't anything new to us Holt residents.

9. When it snows, we just expect our streets to be plowed last. Most of us have that cool neighbor with a nice plow on the front of their truck to help get us out of our driveways. Our schools are the last to call off school, and our blood is thick to withstand our Mid-Michigan winters!

10. Most likely, you grew up in Holt, your parents grew up in Holt, your grandparents grew up in Holt, and you are raising your family in Holt. This sense of pride and love for our community beats all odds and is one of a kind compared to any community out there. Being a Holt Ram runs deep in our hearts, and we are proud to call this beautiful place home!

When it comes to Bloomington-Normal, there are many outstanding factors that any Illinois State student can say are unique to our college town (and maybe others too). Proud or not, we Redbirds know all the ins and outs of Blono.

1. The wait for Buffalo Wild Wings is always going to be long on Thursday nights.

As hard as we try, it's nearly impossible to resist the 69-cent wings on a college student budget. Plus, they are always delicious!
