My best friend and I have been friends for almost eight years now. Of course we have our fights and our ups and our downs, but what friendship doesn't? Even though we have been through a lot together he has never failed to be right there by my side. He is always there when I call and he is always there when I need him. After everything he has helped me through and everything we have been through, here are a few things that I forget to thank him for.

1. Thank you for always picking up when I call.

No matter what time of day it is, you always pick up the phone when I call. Sometimes I have a lot to say and sometimes I just need to get one thing out, but regardless of what it is you are always there to listen to me.

2. Thank you for choosing me over video games.

I guess this one actually goes both ways, since I am a gamer, too, but still. Thank you for always dropping the controller when I call or when I come over to vent. I know that is something that you don't have to do, but you do it anyway so that you can listen to me and be there for me.

3. Thank you for choosing me over watching sports, too.

I know there are times when you would rather be watching the game than spending all day with me, but you do it anyway because you know that some days I just need my guy best friend to be in my presence. Also, not just giving up watching sports to spend time with me and talk to me, but giving it up to let me watch what I want to watch.

4. Oh and also, thank you for choosing me over your boys.

I know that bro time means a lot to you, but thank you for coming to my rescue when you are with them and thank you for answering your phone when you are around all of them. Thank you for letting me intrude on your bro time as well. Whenever I need you or I just want to hang out, thank you for giving up that bro time to hang out with me.

5. Thank you for watching chick flicks with me.

I know you would rather not watch movies that involve sappy love stories and sappy endings, but you do it anyway because I ask you to. So thank you for always watching what I want to watch, even if you do fall asleep half way through the movie.

6. Thank you for listening to me rant when no one else is available.

When none of my girl friends are around, thank you being in their place and listening to me rant. I know that you're a guy and that's not your thing, but thank you for making it your thing. Thank you for allowing me to talk about boys and complain to you about all my girl problems.

7. Thank you for protecting me.

Thank you for reminding all the guys I date that you'll beat them up if they hurt me. And thank you for having my back whenever we go somewhere. Thank you for being my bodyguard and making sure no harm comes my way.

8. Thank you for letting me cry all night.

Thank you for being my shoulder to cry on when no one is around. I know that guys aren't emotional and they don't deal with emotions well, but thank you for trying your best to comfort me in my times of need and for letting me cry my eyes out.

9. Thank you for always motivating me.

Whenever I am feeling down about something, you are always there to offer me words of encouragement. You never fail to give me lots and lots of words of wisdom and remind that I can make it far in life if I just believe and keep striving. So thank you for always encouraging me to do better and to be better.

10. Thank you for putting up with me.

I know. I am a girl and I have a lot of emotions. Thank you for dealing with those emotions the best way you can and never giving up on me as a person. I know that times get hard and we fight and bicker, but thank you for always looking past my PMS and letting it go.

If I didn't a guy best friend like you, I wouldn't know what to do. You are like a second brother to me and without you, I probably wouldn't be as far as I am right now.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
