As school is rapidly approaching and our summer is ending it's time to start getting everything together to have a successful year. Last year I had no clue what to bring to school, I packed way to much and I didn't even use most of what I brought with me. So here's a list for all you first time college students who also have no clue what to bring.
1. A Water Filter
Being a broke college kid you really try to save money when you can. This is about a $20 investment that will save you time and money! Forget having to constantly go to the store and buy more cases of water, or getting up in the middle of the night to fill up a bottle. You can fill this up in any sink or water fountain and the water will be perfectly fine! I don't know what I'd do without mine!
2. Drying rack
Clothes shrink, it's a well known fact. Drying racks are a great way to dry your clothes without them shrinking, or taking up the whole room with hangers. I love that I can fold it up and store it until I need to use it again, perfect for a small dorm room.
3. Wrinkle Release Spray
This stuff has saved my life more than I can count. Sometimes you're too lazy to fold your clothes right after they're done in the dryer, or sometimes you're running late and your clothes are wrinkled. Instead of having to take time to throw it in the dryer or iron it, just spray some of this magic on and BAM you've got wrinkle free clothes. Saves time, and it smells good.
4. Tan and white paint
I love to hang things on my wall, but when the time came for me to leave the dorms those stupid command strips took the paint off with them. I didn't want to have to pay a fee so I mixed together some of my tan and white paint to match the walls. It worked perfectly, and I didn't even have to pay anything because I already had the paint.
5. Bathrobe
When I left for college last year my parents insisted I needed a bathrobe instead of just a towel. Having a robe was so much easier than a towel, it was easy to hangup, had pockets so I didn't have to carry everything, didn't have to worry about it falling off in the hall, and it was comfy.
6. Bathmat for under your desk
Dorm floors are usually cold and hard, something you don't really want on your feet when you're trying to study. Put a nice soft bathmat under your desk and your feet will thank you.
7. A scale
The freshman 15 is a real thing. In order to have an amazing and successful first year you'll need to stay healthy. Having a scale is a great way to keep up with your weight so you'll know whats going on. No more guessing and wondering why suddenly your favorite shirt doesn't fit like it used to.
8. A portable charger
Lets say your out late at the library, or you've got back to back classes and no time for a break. Maybe you just forgot to charge your phone. Portable chargers are a great backup incase you can't find a plug, or you just don't have time to charge your phone.
9. Air mattress
You'll definitely want one of these if you're planning on ever having a friend visit. Whenever one of my friends would visit me I always felt bad because they had to sleep on the hard floor. An air mattress is a great thing to have so they also have a comfy place to sleep, you can also bring this with you if you ever decide to go visit one of your friends.
10. A fan
If you're like me and you're constantly hot a fan is a great thing to have. When you're sharing a space with another person it's hard to make both people happy. I like having a fan so I can control my own temperature and don't have to bother someone else by making them too cold.
So there you have it, 10 things you don't realize you need for school, but should probably have anyway. Congratulations to all you upcoming freshman!
