1) Tea Time
Instead of having Chips Ahoy and milk, my mum loves McVite's, Digestives, and a pot of tea. She does this everyday at four o'clock sharp.
2) Ketchup
My mum puts ketchup on everything. It is not limited to just fish and chips. She always has ketchup packs handy for pizza, eggs and fried rice. I am more partial to the tea time. Not so much this trait.
3) "Sit up straight!"
My mum, without fail, comments on everyone's posture. She even tells this to the little kids she teaches at school.
4) Her Accent!
Whenever my mum goes anywhere or talks to anyone, she always gets asked where she is from because they love her accent. Everyone comments on how proper it sounds.
5) She like anything from England
Union jacks, telephone booths, she wants all of it from London. When we were looking for Christmas trees, I showed my mum a picture of one and she says "oh no, I do not like that one." I said "it is an English fir tree." She replied with, "Hold on, let me see it again. It looks perfect."
6) Word Pronunciation
I grew up saying "aunt" differently because I learned how to speak differently. So my sister and I have alternating accents. Also, my mum has an odd time pronouncing Arkansas. She says "how can it be Ar- kan- saw? Kansas is not 'kan-saw', now is it?"
7) Her love for The Royal Family
My mum does not like waking up early. But when Prince William got married, my mum was up eating Jaffa cakes in her bed and crying like one of her children were getting married.
8) Harrods Mugs
Typically, mum's have a display case of china or fancy glass pieces. But instead, my mum has glass cases full of tea cups and Harrods bears. (Harrods is the most amazing store in London)
9) Fashion / Her sense of style
My mum dresses nicely to go to the grocery store. When I was young, she made sure everything I wore matched. I would argue that I dressed better when I was a kid than I do now.
10) How much I love my mom...
Regardless of all of these quirks, I love my British mum more and more each day! Have a great Mother's Day!
