I know what you’re thinking, “spring is so far away.” Although it may seem that way right now, especially with all this crazy weather we’re having, it will be here before you know it. Next week we lose an hour of sleep. And for us college students, that’s a major loss. Here’s a list of random, yet practical things you can do to get you and your home ready for spring.

1. Stock up on allergy medications.

With spring comes flowers and pollen, and lovely allergies. If you're not someone who is affected by these allergies, consider yourself lucky. But for those of you who know this all too well, or have recently discovered these lovely springtime allergies, stock up now rather than waiting for the store to be out later. And yes, that does actually happen. Trust me, I know.

2. Get ahead on cleaning.

Whether your house, car, or office needs cleaning, get ahead on it now so you can enjoy the nice weather when it's here.

3. Decorate your home with bright colors.

Maybe brighten up the throw pillows on the couch, pick up some flowers from the store, or put up some cool springtime photos. If you're feeling creative, paint a picture using bright colors.

4. Switch out the clothes in your closet.

Put away the heavy sweaters and long socks, and pull out the capris and short sleeves! But don't put the sweaters and long socks away for good, this is the midwest and you never know what mother nature will throw at you next.

5. Go shopping for new clothes.

Now, I'm not saying go buy a whole new wardrobe, just look for some cute statement pieces and some basics. Also, never leave a store without looking at the clearance section. Right now is when a lot of stores have good sales. So not only can you get some new clothes for this spring, but you can also get clothes for next winter or fall!

6. Create a nature bucket list.

Make a list of all the places you want to spend time at and explore this spring and summer. It could be a list of your favorite places or places you've never been!

7. Adjust your sleep schedule.

One bad thing about the approaching season is that we lose an hour of precious sleep. Prep yourself now, so it's not such a huge blow when it hits.

8. Find your raincoat.

Another thing that Spring brings is rain. Now would be a good time to find your raincoat, rainboots, and umbrella so you're not rushing to find them before the first downpour.

9. Replace the batteries in your smoke detectors.

A good rule of thumb is to always change the batteries in your smoke detectors when the time changes occur. This way, you can always know the last time you changed your batteries and ensure you have working detectors. You don't really want to call the fire department, do you? I didn't think so.

10. Get your rods and reels ready.

IT'S FISHIN' SEASON BOYS AND GIRLS!! Can you tell I'm excited?! I can't wait to get out on the lakes and rivers again and catch some fish!

This is a pretty random list, but at least one of them is applicable to you. I know it's been pretty cold and dreary lately with this weather, but look on the bright side, at least it'll be Spring soon! So clean, prepare, gear up and get excited folks, Spring's coming sooner than you think!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
