10 Things You Can Do In Between Classes

There's always something that can be done when you're waiting to go to your next class.

You have some time to kill in between classes, so what to do? Here is a list of some things you can do to pass the time!

1. Eat

Out of everything I'm listing, this one is probably the most crucial. I know for myself at least that when I'm in class and I'm hungry, all I think about is what I'm going to get to eat afterward. Basically, NEVER go to class when you're starving. It's so hard to pay attention. If you have a break in the afternoon, that is the perfect time to eat lunch and refuel for your next class!

2. Sleep

Besides eating, one of my favorite in between class activities is napping. Even if you only have a 50-minute break, that is still enough time to get in a quick cat nap to refresh you for your upcoming class. You'll especially need it if you were up late working on an assignment that was due early the next day, and that nap will be so rewarding once you come back after turning in that assignment.

3. Study/Do Homework

Unfortunately, you can't sleep all the time between your classes. There may be a huge exam that day that you could use that extra hour to study for, and that can make all the difference. The material is fresh in your mind and you will be ready to conquer that exam. Also, you might have an assignment you know you can get done in that time, so why not get it over with? Then, you won't have to worry about it the rest of the week or even the weekend.

4. Hang out with friends

There's nothing like finding a friend after a hard class and ranting to them about how much you hate the professor or how hard the exam you just took was. It's also nice to just talk about how your day is going so far with someone you know who actually cares. I believe talking and hanging out with your friends makes the day a whole lot better, so do this as much as you can between classes.

5. Go to the gym

I recommend this one if you have a break longer than an hour, just so you have enough time to come back, change, and shower. Working out in between classes is the perfect stress reliever when your workload and studying just becomes too much. You can run out all that stress and then be refreshed for your next class!

6. Shower

This can go hand in hand with going to the gym, but also if you want to hit the snooze button a few extra times in the morning before your first class. Trust me, a lot of people look like they just rolled out of bed in their morning classes, so it's really no biggie if you do the same. Then on your break, you can freshen up and look great for your upcoming classes.

7. Call Your Mom

Sometimes after a stressful exam or sitting through a class of things you just don't understand, hearing your mom's voice telling you everything is going to be okay can be the perfect remedy. Your mom will always listen to what you have to say, even if she doesn't understand what you're talking about. After talking to her, you'll have a clear head for your next class.

8. Go to the Library

Chances are, there's always something you need to print or study before your next class, so going to the library in between classes is a must. I like having chapter notes prepared for all my classes so then I can take extra notes on them, so I'm always at the library printing notes before a class. When you have an exam that day and you don't have time to get back to your room, studying in the library is the perfect solution. It is nice and quiet, so you can stay focused.

9. Clean your room

I know for a fact there is always something that can be cleaned in your dorm. Whether it's clothes on the floor from picking out an outfit or if you haven't put your laundry away yet, these are the kinds of things that can be done in between classes. I know sometimes you just want to be lazy before your next class, but getting something cleaned before class means you won't have to do it after, giving you more time to nap or do homework.

10. Pack for when you go home!

It's Thursday night and you have a huge exam on Friday, so you don't have time to pack for the weekend if you are going home. On Friday in between classes is the perfect time to pack for home, so you can leave right after your last class for the day! It won't take long at all if it's just for the weekend since you don't need that much, but if you're in a rush to get to class, I would check to see that you have everything before leaving campus for the weekend after your last class.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
