1. Going to a Movie
If there is a movie you want to see and none of your friends or family want to see it with you, go alone. You are an adult and it is not weird to go to a movie by yourself. It is not sad, if it isn't weird to watch a movie alone at home then why is it different in a theater? Go and get you a large popcorn, your favorite candy, and enjoy that movie.
2. Going for a Walk
Either around your block or in a local state park or walking trail, going for a walk alone is something I definitely recommend! If you are in the LC area, I drive to Sam Houston and walk or run those trails all the time. Sometimes I bring my camera and get a little artsy, sometimes I blast gangsta rap in my headphones and run off some steam, sometimes I walk and listen to Jason Mraz and figure out all my life's problems.
Pro Tip from my Grandma J - Walking is also a good time to call people you need to talk to instead of sitting on your butt and talking.
3. Shopping
I don't know when we decided shopping was a group activity but I cannot possibly think of a worse idea. Friends convince you to buy things you don't need. Friends convince you that clothes you aren't comfortable in look great on you. Go shopping with a list and send your friends pics from the dressing room.
4. Sitting in a Coffee Shop
I love going to a coffee shop with my laptop and sitting by myself and doing homework or blogging or even bringing a book. It is totally ok to go to Starbucks or a local coffee shop alone. It's even a great way to meet people. If you are alone, you are a lot more approachable!
5. Going to Eat at a Restaurant
I feel like this one is really taboo but as a server/bartender I see people come in and eat alone all the time. I have done it too! If you feel awkward sitting at a table alone then go sit at the bar, order some food, talk to the bartender, watch TV, play on your phone, whatever you want to do.
6. DIY Projects
Flex that creative muscle, girl. Putting on your craft overalls, throwing your hair back in a messy bun and bandanna, blasting some music, and tackling some DIY projects all by yourself can be fun! I know having all your friends over to craft with you is fun but it can be really fun all by yourself too! Then you have something that was all your own. 'Gram it and enjoy the compliments.
7. Â Explore Your Own Backyard
Are there places in your town that are "must see's" that you haven't seen? Local restaurants or museums can be really interesting. Try googling your city and adjacent cities near you. Don't knock the "tourist attractions".
8. Take a Class
This is one of the best things I can recommend to do by yourself. Sign up for an art class, a yoga class, anything that you are interested in. This is a great way to explore other interests and expand you friend groups! This can be so liberating to try something you are interested in all by yourself. You will be amazed at what you learn about yourself.
9. Get a Mani/Pedi
Go treat yourself! Get a mani/pedi or a massage! This can be so relaxing to do alone, you can close your eyes and enjoy or play on your phone. Either way just enjoy feeling pampered. If you are watching your budget then pinterest a DIY mani/pedi and pamper yourself at home while you watch your favorite movie or show.
10. Visit the Library
Visit your local library, sign yourself up for a card, and explore. The library has really evolved from what it was when we were little. Now you can borrow DVDs, CDs, newspapers, magazines, surf the internet, and explore all kinds of other things besides just books. There are also tons of groups and clubs and classes you can join! In my town the main library even offers lots of free events with (FOOD) speakers, (FOOD) give-aways, and fun activities... (FOOD).
Doing things alone can be really intimidating but trust me, it is so liberating and you can learn so much about yourself from choosing to brave new adventures alone.
