10 Things You Always Find Coming Home

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Coming home is always a relief. Most likely, you aren't concerned with paying for anything while home, and your parents do all the things to run the household. You can sleep for hours, binge Netflix, and drink all the good alcohol and not have to pay for it. If you are anything like me, though, you will find a hundred reason to be nostalgic. These are the things you will find when you come home.

1. A mess

Last time you left this house, you were probably running late from waking up at noon. Your childhood room greets you with a mess. Oops

2. Old Twilight memorabilia

Your room will forever be how you left it at 17. Your walls were once covered in Taylor Lautner, Green Day, Cole Sprouse, and a slew of other bad Seventeen Magazine posters. Maybe not all of them are out and about, but some remnants still cling to your walls. Similarly, your walls are still probably bright pink or green dots.

3. Five socks and all your missing bobby pins

Your room seems to transform into the house from Halloweentown 2.

4. Your MCM is my TBT

Approximately three of your old guy friends from high school will hit you up. These boys must have a sixth sense for girls coming back into town. Maybe college did them well, or it’s Rose Colored glasses, but damn. Also, they are just convenient. They live like a block away, and you won't have to deal with them in two weeks. If you decide to “catch up,” their parents will freaking glow while drilling you with questions about your future.

5. Weird shit your mom kept

My mom has all my artwork (that I generally forget about every time I leave the house) hanging up. All those wood carvings you had to to do in Woodshop somehow show up.

6. Family Classics

These are usually based on heritage or tradition. Be it Wooden Clogs, Enchiladas, or Chocolate Chip cookies, these always show up in abundance.

7. Old athletic gear and instruments

Why did you quit the clarinet? Wouldn’t it be great to pick it up again?

Wow, remember when you were a jock? You could have definitely gone to the Olympics, if you had continued playing, or worked out more, or actually been good at the sport.

8. Rando High School people

Whether you're in Walmart or that trendy new cafe downtown, you will see someone you went to high school with. Neither of you will know what to do, and the whole situation will be awkward. Just keep your head down.

9. At least Five DIYs you want to do

You have ALL this free time, and you know, you just never get to DIY anything. This could be a new freaking you. Alas, you buy materials for five DIYs, start three, and finish zero. Your mom will chastise you for wasting your money.

10. An appreciation for where you are now

You might be sick of “adulting,” but give it a day at home and you will find real appreciation for what you are doing. Home might be comforting, but there is good reason that you left.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.

Mistakes are something we all make, no matter how old we get. Most of the time, the mistakes we made are little and sometimes due to something out of our control. Yet, there are mistakes that are bigger than others. Personally, I have mistakes that I wish I could go back and undo. Here they are:

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
