We never realized growing up how well we had it made.

1. Bubble baths

I will never understand why we go through this stage of not taking bubble baths. It’s like between elementary school and college, bubble baths are socially unacceptable. Bubble baths are so underrated.

2. Family Dinners

Not only do you become “home-cooked-meal deprived”, the whole act of sitting down together to share a meal would be a dream come true. Some days between work and classes you may not have a single meaningful encounter. Having some quality time at the end of the day is something you took for granted all those years.

3. Hugs

Being away from family leads to a lack of hugs. You never realize how badly you could use a hug until your mom embraces you for the first time in weeks.

4. Family Game Nights

After a long week of classes, nothing sounds better than laughing until you cry during BS and trying to convince the family that you’re not bad at Monopoly, it’s just rigged.

5. Naps

At five years old fighting sleep was what you did for fun. Now, it has become a lifestyle and you’d do anything for an hour power nap each afternoon.

6. “How was your day?”

Every single day, like clockwork, the “how was your day, sweetie”, “good” conversation was nothing more than reflex. Now, when someone takes the time to ask about your day, it becomes a chance to unload every single thought and feeling that you experienced that day.

7. Reminders to eat

Ever realized at one o’clock in the morning that you literally forgot to eat that day? We’ve all been there… way too often. Even though your mom’s incessant nagging about remembering to eat drove you insane in high school, now it could really come in handy.

8. “Do you want to go _____ with me?”

Whether it was the bank, Grandma’s house, or the grocery store, going with your mom anywhere always seemed like a drag. Now, whenever I’m home I hitch a ride with my mom everywhere and beg her to go with on errands. Who knew grocery shopping could get lonely?

9. Being told to go to bed

For some reason, two AM seems to sneak up a lot faster these days. I would give just about anything to have those annoying nightly reminders to get some sleep.

10. Real breakfast

College has replaced breakfast with a coffee to-go and inhaling a bagel on your ride to class, or slurping down a bowl of cereal in the bathroom during your morning routine. It’s crazy to think that at one point in our lives sitting down at the table together to a stack of pancakes was actually a thing.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
