10 Things I Want To Thank My Little Sister For

A little sister, I thought. How neat. With your ten fingers, ten toes and one nose I knew that our bond will never be broken, damaged sometimes maybe but never broken. Sure, every now and then I say thank you but thats for like “Thanks for getting me a glass of milk” or “Thanks for buying me a smoothie that one day.” But there are somethings that I have wanted to truly thank you for.

Thank you for:

1. Having my back.

You have been there for me since the beginning. Literally. You have been there for me through scrapped knees, stupid boys, each and every sport I’ve done or arguments with mom and dad. You are my day one and I couldn’t be more thankful for you and what you have done for me.

2. Being brave.

You are so much braver than you think you are. We have been through so much and without your bravery it would have been even harder. Your bravery is not something that you can teach, it is something you are born with. Throughout our years you have been my rock and I thank you for that more than you know.

3. Inspiring me.

Everything I do, I do for you. From doing well in school and sports to creating friendships and helping others is all for you. You inspire me to be the best and do the best. I wouldn’t have the motivation to get up each day and show what I can do for the world without you. I am so thankful for you and your life that I want to do well for you.

4. Your kindness.

Kindness. That should be your middle name. You treat people the way you want to be treated even if they don’t treat you the same as you treat them. Your kindness goes world round and is an inspiration to me and others. The way you help people in need is something that all people should look up to, I know I do. I want to thank you for showing me how to be kind and showing me how far kindness can truly go.

5. Crying with me.

Tears are okay, just remember that. I’ll never forget getting into arguments with you and hearing the doors slam shut when you were mad. But when your little fingers would peak through under my door when you wrote me an apology letter showed how much you cared. We would cry together through the rough times in our life or even laughing so hard that we cried. Thank you for sharing those tears with me because you know that I’ll never judge you.

6. Being a pain in my ass.

Sometimes, I wanted to put you in a box and mail you away. You drove me nuts! We were so different growing up with your love for shopping and my love for watching hockey. Your love for going out and my love for sitting in watching movies. You never understood me and I never understood you which explains the amount of arguments, fights and “I hate you’s”. But with all those things, you wouldn’t be my sister if you weren’t such a pain in my ass now would you? So thanks for fighting with me all these years and there’s a small part of me that misses it to be honest.

7. Teaching me.

You probably don’t know this but you teach me so much about life. You teach me how to treat others and how to be myself. You’ve taught me to stand up for what I believe in and never give up on anything. You have taught me that if I set my mind to something I should stick with it. You have taught me to not care what others think and to not be afraid to show my strength and confidence. Thank you for showing me how to be a role model and how to finally realize it’s time to grow up but at the same time don’t forget to have fun.

8. Making me laugh.

Your laughter is so addicting that it makes me laugh. When someone cracks a joke or we’re watching a comedy, when you start to laugh to the point where your eyes get all squinty and you can’t breathe is my absolute favorite. When I would chase you around the house and I would hide on the opposite side of the wall waiting for you to come around the corner, your laugh filled my heart with song. I am thankful for your goofy voices, funky dance moves and interesting facial expressions because they can cure any form of sadness.

9. Being my teammate.

We have a special bond that no other teammates will ever have. You have my back and I have yours. If a defender gets all up in your grill you know for a fact that I will be there to handle them because I know you will do the same for me. Seeing you next to me on the field or next to me during practice helped me become a better player. You always pushed me to limit and beyond and I thank you for that because without that push I wouldn’t be where I am now. It breaks my heart knowing that we are no longer teammates but we are now each others number one fans!

10. Being my best friend.

When you were born I knew in that moment that we were going to be best friends. I always thought growing up the first friend you make is in your kindergarten class or your life long best friend would be your roommate in college. But no, your life long friend has been apart of your life all along and I never knew it until I grew up. Being miles away from each other at different colleges, in different states helped me realize how much I truly miss you and how much I miss being apart of your life. I am beyond grateful that you came into my life with that tight curly hair and bright brown eyes. You are and always will be my best friend. And I thank you for that.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
