10 Things I Want To Do In My Lifetime

As the years go by, it seems logical that one would start to think about the future. We all dream about what our life is going to be like 10 years from now. Many of us probably have all kinds of goals for ourselves, and while we are aware that we might not get everything we hope for, having a set of goals in mind is really great. Ultimately, it gives us something to work for, and, for a few of the goals that we set, there is probably no room for compromise. Here is a list of what some of these future goals might be:

1. Have a career that I enjoy

I have worked hard my entire life. With all the years that go into getting a good education, I expect to have a career that I find to be enjoyable. It would be wrong to work so hard for so long to come out on the other side with nothing for yourself.

2. Find time to travel

We only have so much time on this earth, and as morbid as that sounds, it's true. We must take advantage of this time here. I want to see everything I possibly can while I have the chance to.

3. Get everything I can out of being young

Sadly, none of us stay young forever. So, we should all make sure we make the most out of every moment that we have. I want to go out with my friends and go on as many adventures as possible for as long as I possibly can.

4. Find someone who loves me for who I am

We all want to be loved; it's a want so innate that it cannot be extinguished. I don't want to have to settle for someone who doesn't appreciate all that I am as a person. I want to be loved and I want to love, unconditionally. I know my person is out there; we all have one. We just have to find them.

5. Get married

Good luck finding a girl who has not dreamed of getting married since she was little. Most of us have been shopping for our wedding dress since we were about 9 years old. I am so excited to experience what I know will be one of the greatest days of my life.

6. Start a family

Since day one, family has been everything to me. I don't know what I would do without my own family, and I cannot wait until I can expand that love and start a family of my own.

7. Be a great parent

I know that I will never be the best parent in the world; that title is already held by my parents, but I plan to be a parent who does everything I can for my kids. I want to have a safe home where my children know that they are loved and supported, a home like I grew up in.

8. Be successful in my career

No matter what goal I set for myself in life, I always want to be successful. If I am doing a job that I love, then I want to do it really well. Doing this will help me secure everything else that I wish to accomplish in my lifetime.

9. Make sure my parents have everything they need/want

As I have said, I have the world's greatest parents. Everything I have ever needed in my life, my parents have provided, and if there is ever anything that I want, they do all that they possibly can to make sure I have that too. One day I know I will be able to pay them back for all of that, but in reality, they deserve more than I could ever give them.

10. Leave a legacy that I can be proud of

When I am 85 years old, sitting in my rocking chair and looking back on my life, I do not want to have any regrets. I want to get everything I can out of this life. I want to look back and know that I had an impact on those around me and that my time on this earth was not wasted.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
