10 Things I Want My Little Brother To Know

Being an older sibling has got to be one of the best gifts in the world. Nothing will beat having a sibling, or a built-in best friend. Of course you're going to get annoyed with each other, but at the end of the day you realize that that's just what happens with siblings.

Being older than my brother means that I need to watch out for him. I only want the best for him, even if he thinks I'm just being a mean older sister sometimes. I know that as he gets older he understands where I'm coming from and why I say and do the things I do, but it's only because I care so much. My "little" brother is my absolute best friend and there are a few things that I want him to know:

1. You changed my life

Thank you for coming into this world and not letting me be an only child (I'm not being sarcastic). I truly mean that. From the moment I found out I was going to be a big sister to the moment you were born, my life was changed forever.

2. You are the best gift that I have ever been given

I would seriously be lost without you. Regardless of what I may say or do sometimes, I could never ever be given a more precious gift besides the gift of a little brother.

3. You're a giant, but that means nothing

Yeah, you may be 3 years younger than me... But you have a good 10 inches on me. (Shut up, I know I'm short). Just remember, no matter what you think, I will always be older and wiser than you.

4. I get mad, but I still love you

I do get mad at you, but it's for your own benefit. I do things to help you, not tear you down. You'll always be my little buddy no matter what. I can't stay mad at you forever.

5. Been there, done that.

I have been in your shoes. I was in high school. I dealt with the same issues at home that you deal with, but I promise you when myself or mom or dad give you advice - we're doing it for your benefit in order to help you. After all, all we want for you is the best.

6. Don't take home made meals for granted

Trust me, when you get to college and you have to live on Sodexo, your body doesn't enjoy it. When mom makes you food, enjoy it and make sure to thank her. If it wasn't for you still being home, she'd be eating cereal or PB&J every night instead of cooking 3 course homemade meals.

7. I know when you take my stuff

I may be away at college, but when I'm home I do notice when something is missing or out of place. Just remember, I'm your big sister... I'm supposed to act like a ninja. (I see you)...

8. I'm your #1 supporter

Being an older sibling comes with tasks of its own. I am your built-in support system. I will always be there to support you in your [smart] choices and ideas. I will always be there for you when you need me buddy. Always.

9. You're my best friend

I cannot express this enough. You are my absolute best friend. We were each others' first friends. And I know that whatever happens in life, we will be lifelong best friends. I only have one amazing sibling and you are my other half.

10. Family always comes first

Always remember your morals and values, and remember where you came from and how you were raised. Family comes before friends, no exceptions. At the end of the day, family is all you have. Make sure that you keep those relationships strong.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
