10 Things I Want My Future Daughter To Know

You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

10 Things I Want My Future Daughter To Know
Anna Lemus

While I may not have a daughter now, and don't plan on having one in the next few years, I hope to one day have one. Here's a few things I want her to know, and I think everyone should teach their daughters these things.

1. Trust in God above everyone else.

Yes, I want you to trust me, but before me, trust God. He will carry you through situations that you won't be able to handle on your own. Always remember Proverbs 3:5-6 which says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to Him, and he will make your paths straight."

2. Any advice I give you is probably from experience.

For example, when I say don't try to open a bag of chips in church. There's no way to open those things quietly. Also, don't get in between a bird and its food because it will try to eat your foot, and you will be scared of birds for the rest of your life.

3. He's probably not worth it.

Especially if he doesn't put forth an effort or isn't after God's heart before yours. And another thing, if posting a picture of you on Instagram is the sweetest thing he does, you gotta cut it.

4. Sometimes life doesn't work out the way you planned.

And sometimes, the result is much better than you planned.

5. You're never too old for a good Disney movie.

Especially "The Little Mermaid," "Tangled," or any of the "High School Musical" movies.

6. A smile and a monogram matches any outfit.

You never know what someone is going through, and a smile can cheer them up or help them in ways you can't imagine. Also, if it's not moving, monogram it. Just saying.

7. High school won't last forever.

There will come a day when you won't have to deal with all the things you dislike about high school ever again, but that will also be the day that you won't be able to see your best friends every day and not have many responsibilities.

8. Find best friends that your kids can one day call aunts and uncles.

Surround yourself with people that you want to be friends with for the rest of your life and that your kids can think of as family. You'll have one biological uncle, but I hope one day you will be able to see my best friends as your aunts and uncles.

9. Any lesson I don't teach you, you will learn from 'Grey's Anatomy.'

I hope you'll love "Grey's" as much as I do, and that you'll learn some life lessons from Meredith's intro and outro narrations. I learned some very important lessons from those narrations.

10. I will love you no matter what.

Even if I accidentally step on the seal at Auburn, and you end up going to UA. I'll love you no matter what and I hope you'll always be sure of that.

"I will also always love you because I know who created you, and you are fearfully and wonderfully made." – Psalm 139: 13-14.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
