10 Things I Want To Do Before I Die

The top ten things on my bucket list I'm waiting to cross off

1.) Northern Lights

The Northern Lights are like a laser light show in the Arctic sky. Only seen at night during the months of September to March, the northern lights are caused by the collision of energetically charged particles with atoms in the high altitude thermosphere. The light moves in a wavy curtain like motion, and from pictures, it looks like an unforgettable experience. I would definitely risk frostbite to witness them.

2.) See Saturday Night Live in person

SNL is my all time favorite show. I can watch it mindlessly for hours, the only show to truly make me laugh out loud, and it’s different every week. I would love to experience it in person and be apart of the uncontrollable laughter. Of course, I would love the host to be someone I like too, but I’m not going to be picky about this experience.

3.) New Years Eve in New York City

Lights. Champagne. The ball drop. Might be very cliché, but you won’t experience this anywhere else.

4.) Ride an elephant

I don’t agree with captive elephants such as elephants in the zoo or in the circus. And although it is similar, I would love to ride an elephant on a tour through South Asia. It is apparently a really emotional experience, and the elephants are able to bond with humans.

5.) Swim with sharks

Sharks are interesting. I’ve read they do not like eating humans, but that they think our wet suits and slick skin resemble seals, which is why they attack. Though I would still like to be in a cage because I would like to not be mistaken for a seal and die.

6.) Pet a Kangaroo

I guess I’ll be going to Australia to complete this one. But all I have to say is that the Zaboomafoo episode, when they took care of the baby red kangaroo, was a big factor for this one.

7.) Scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef

Probably going to Hawaii is more realistic for scuba diving, but go big or go home right? The Great Barrier Reef is the most diverse reef and the largest living thing on Earth. It can be seen from space! Not only is it home to fish, but there are also dolphins, sharks, and turtles. Hopefully, Crush will be there.

8.) Finish a TV series

I have yet to fully complete a TV series. Although Netflix has given me endless opportunities to finish one, I usually get bored and never finish it. I am able to get up to the very last season, but then never pull through.

9.) Adopt a pet

Have you noticed there’s an animal theme on my list? I recently just adopted a kitten, who drives me crazy and I’ve seriously contemplated giving her back before I spend the next 20 years with her. But rescuing an animal that has lived a rough life, that has never been pet, never had a bed, and give it endless love, support, and affection in the most rewarding experience

10.) Have a Ferris Bueller day

I might not be in high school anymore (not that I would ever go back, high school was awful) but this would still relate to college. Picture it: you steal your dad’s prized possession, his car, pick up your friends, attend a fancy lunch by taking the role of someone else, sing in a parade (I know Seattle doesn’t really have parades, but maybe a festival?), hang out next to a poll in the 60 degree weather, and make it back home before your TA rats you out to your parents.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
