I've been a vegetarian for about two months now. It's honestly such a welcoming community of people who don't eat meat for a variety of reasons. Some are for ethical/moral reasons, others do it for health, and some to better the environment. Regardless of our reasonings, we all will have a slip-up. We are eating something that we are completely unaware has meat in it until it is too late. Here are 10 things vegetarians do when they accidentally eat meat:
1. You take a bite and something tastes off.
You can't quite place it but you take another bite because you're hungry and trusting.
2. You take a few more bites and decide to start looking at your food.
Something is off. You know it. You begin to investigate your food like you're on a crime show until...
3. You see it. You see the meat.
The world suddenly stops and all you can see is that meat.
4. You spit your food out and begin to feel betrayal.
Why did this place hide the meat in this food? Why didn't this person tell me there was meat in this? Why cruel world, why?!
5. You begin to feel guilty.
You think that you should have checked more carefully. You should have asked. You could have stopped this!
6. And feel sad.
Whether your reasons are health related, morality related, or environmental related you feel sad. What about that animal? What about your stomach? The ozone layer?
7. Also, you're a little mad that you broke your streak.
Whether it's weeks, months, or years you're mad that you technically have eaten meat and haven't technically gone the specific amount of time that you say you have.
8. But then you realize that it's okay. It doesn't count if you didn't know.
Vegetarianism is about actively choosing not to consume meat. If you didn't choose to not have it, then how is it your fault?
9. So you bounce back and resume your omnivore ways.
Potatoes, pasta, and veggies. Lemme love you.
10. But you are especially cautious of that food/restaurant/friend from now forward.
Trust no one! Trust no food!
