The University of South Alabama in Mobile is a beautiful and diverse campus. The medium sized school gives South a more intimate feeling rather than a large campus who has 500 or more students in each class. The students at South give it its great name and reputation. Below are 10 things that all students that attend South can relate to.
1. Enjoying the pretty walks to class
South’s campus is without a doubt one of the prettiest college campuses I’ve ever seen. Early walks to class are very enjoyable. The sun is up, the leaves are falling and the nice breeze makes you hesitate walking into class because you’re enjoying the scenery so much.
2. Speed lumps
Everyone has been driving in their car at some point, not paying attention, going full speed when “bam!” you hit a speed lump unexpectedly, expecting a hole to be at the bottom of your car by the end of it, judging by the awful sound it made. Freshmen can attest to the flat tires they’ve received due to this.
3. Red, white and blue wardrobe
Typical game day attire for a USA student is Uncle Sam’s dream closet to a tee. Anything obnoxiously patriotic the better!
4. The Caf
Everyone knows the caf’s reputation. All I got to say is pizza for days!
5. Humanities (aka Antarctica)
Anyone who has ever had a class in the Humanities Building can tell you how cold it is. Yoga pants and a sweatshirt is the way to go when facing this building’s freezing temperatures.
6. Going down the slope of USA Circle Drive
The decline on USA Circle Drive makes any drive around campus all that much more fun. Not to mention it gets you places quicker.
7. Starbucks at the library
Every day that you go to the library to study, you somehow always catch a whiff of Starbucks’s coffee aroma. You ask yourself whether you need it or not, but always talk yourself into it and end up spending half your time you wanted to put towards studying, waiting in line to get your PSL.
8. The Rec Center
The Rec Center is one of South’s great advantages. Want to learn yoga? Run on an indoor track? Rock climb? Head to the Rec Center to do all these things and more! Though most of us admit to not going enough, when you do go, it’s a great experience!
9. The JagTran
All lazy people unite and take the JagTran. I have to admit I am one of those students. JagTrans are lifesavers on days the heat is unbearable and you don’t want to look like you went swimming before you walk into a class. They get you to class on time and save you from the uphill walks.
10. The Student Center
Home to all your favorite afternoon meals: Chick-Fil-A, Burger Studio, Pizza Hut and Quiznos. Not to mention the sushi they sell at the P.O. D. market is the best thing you’ll ever eat!
