As a photographer and avid Instagrammer, I constantly struggle with what to caption or title my photos. In a digital world where technology dominates the way we learn about our friends, it is highly important to have direct intentions when posting and make sure your viewers understand as well.

As 2017 is quickly coming to an end, I have reviewed my captions and come up with the 11 things that happen if you're utterly terrible at writing captions that I am going to be working on in 2018!

1. Just posting without a caption.

To be honest, I don't know what to write most of the time so I just post something and hope people enjoy the photograph on its own.

2. Searching up an artsy quote and going through several pages of google until you find one that works.

"Let's wander where the wifi is weak" - sincerely, Google.

3. Putting a series of random emojis because they somehow tell a story on their own.

4. Writing the location, date and time just because.

Just a PSA about where you were and when you took that photo.

5. Asking your poetic friend for a good caption.

"Hey, what should I caption this?" is honestly the most frequent question I am asking my friends.

6. Putting a song lyric that applies to the picture or your mood at the time.

Especially if you just went to a concert of your favorite artist.

7. Writing one or two words that explain the moment you captured.

Sometimes I will just write "pretty sky" or "yummy", even I'm guilty of being lazy with my captions!

8. Making it an inside joke that only you and your friends will understand.

Because no one will understand the secret language you and your friends have, but know that its something special because they probably have the exact same thing with their friends.

9. Re-directing someone to a link in your bio.

If you created something awesome and want to let your IG followers

10. The Hashtag.

Hashtags can really represent anything. A new trend you want to take part in, current movement you support or even something as simple as #friYAY.

11. The few posts where you vent.

Whether its about your friends birthday, a meaningful life event, a thank you post or something that upsets you, you let your followers know how you feel in the most transparent ways.

After all, they do say a photo is worth a thousand words, but when captioning photos, it allows the audience viewing your photographs to have a direct interaction with your initial intentions of that photograph.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
