To any political science or politics majors out there, you know what it’s like for everyone to think you have an easy major. But, that’s OK, you don’t mind anymore, you’re too consumed with all things politics. Especially with 2016 being an election year, you don’t care what people say, you’ll be too busy watching the debates and primary results!
1. You know how hard it is not to roll your eyes at other students when they complain about having 10 pages of reading for homework.
That’s it, just 10 pages?!
2. You cringe when you hear others talk about politics or current events.
“A wall bordering the states to keep immigrants out is a great idea!”
*dies a little inside*
"Free college tuition? What could be better?!"
*bites tongue*
3. 8-10 page research papers are no match for you.
Not only are they no match, but also you can handle having them due for at least two classes per semester.
4. Your exam was multiple choice?
No, thank you. Hand me a blue book… actually, hand me two.
5. Coffee is basically a food group for you.
Hot, iced, latte whatever the form you’ll take one. You need to stay awake while you’re reading somehow.
6. Having a love/hate relationship with history.
We know how important it is to understand how and when the United States broke away from Britain's rule, but half a book based on history?! Can this class at least fulfill a history requirement?
7. Wait, you actually use the boards in class?
As a poli sci major, we are accustomed to open discussions and debates in class. We really have no use for the white or black boards. Which is fine with us, more time to talk about our opinions!
8. “You’re a Poli Sci Major, so you’re gonna be a lawyer like Elle Woods?”
*Facepalm*
Although law school is my next step, you can do so many things with this major. Politician? Check. Professor? Absolutely. Journalist? Why not? Don’t get my wrong I love Legally Blonde as much as the next person, I mean she made law seem easy while looking fabulous but most of us would prefer to be associated with the show "Suits".
9. You get defensive when people tell you political science isn’t a science.
This is a widely believed thought, however, political science is very much a science. We’re social scientists, so we study people and their relationships to others and their governments. We may not be studying how cells multiply or what to combine to get hydrochloric acid but we actually do experiments; we even use the scientific method!
10. You take pride in knowing and understanding how your country is run and what is going on currently.
You look forward and seek out debates because you know exactly what you’re talking about.
Please let’s talk about the Presidential election; just let me grab a coffee first.
Good luck and stay strong poli sci majors!
