I'm not going to lie, I am terrified for the next four years. Not because of what the new president will do concerning policies, but because of the effect his words and his election will have on the general population. In spite of this, I'm making a list of ten things that make me smile and make me happy, with the hopes that they will make you smile as well. Because now more than ever, when everyone is afraid and uncertain, we need to be reminded that the world isn't so bad after all.

1. Dogs exist.

Dogs are, without a doubt, the purest creatures on the face of the planet. All they want from us is love and attention, and sometimes they look extremely silly. Dogs deserve to live forever.

2. Cats exist.

Cats are some of the most ridiculous animals on the planet. I love cats, because in their minds they are our supreme overlords. Supreme overlords that secretly love cuddles.

3. "Moana" comes out soon!

Yes!! Disney's first Polynesian princess with an actual Polynesian voice actress!! And she doesn't have a love interest and is a badass!!! Its impossible to be anything but happy watching the trailers for Moana.

4. This couple celebrating 75 years together.

5. People who give random compliments.

People who go out of their way to tell you that you look nice or something like that are the best people in the world.

6. We live in a truly beautiful world.

Seriously, it doesn't even matter where you live. Its worth taking like two minutes out of your day to just admire everything, because our planet is gorgeous.

7. Space

I'm kind of obsessed with space. Space, like earth, is beautiful. Even the concept of space, of infiniteness is beautiful. I just really like space okay?

8. Harry Potter

If you ever get sad, just remember we live in the same world as Harry Potter. And I'm not just including his series here, but any fiction that makes you happy and gives you an escape.

9. Kids being kind.

Kids are some of the kindest people in the world. Children don't understand hate or prejudice; we should all be more like kids.

10. Random acts of kindness.

Things like this give me hope. Hope that people are good and will not let the words and actions of one man divide us. I understand that people are afraid, I'm terrified. But thats why we need hope. Hope is the most powerful weapon against fear.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
