For the first time ever, I finally watched "10 Things I Hate About You." After seeing countless, iconic clips and references shared on social media, I grabbed myself a bowl of popcorn and sat down to watch the movie everyone seemed to love. And, I loved it. This movie encompasses the '90s in its glory (for any fellow nineties kids out there). So, what better way to summarize the movie by listing it's best parts? Here are my 10 things to love about "10 Things I Hate About You."
1. The soundtrack/'90s playlist
To be honest, to have a good movie there needs to be a good soundtrack that goes with it. And let’s face it, everyone loves 90s music. Not to mention, you probably had or will have at least one of the songs stuck in your head at the end of the movie.
2. '90s Heath Ledger
3. '90s Heath Ledger serenading Kat (Julia Stiles) on the football field
*cue the happy tears and cheesy smiles and heart melting*
4. Mr. Morgan and his sarcastic comments
He may look as young as his students, but English teacher Mr. Morgan’s sarcastic comments added another level of humor to the movie.
5. Kat's poem at the end of the movie
*cue the tears again*
6. Quintessential '90s teen angst
Giving viewers a fresh take on Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew,” this movie highlights the attitude and personalities of teenagers during the 90s. Although the movie follows a common story plot (boy gets bribed into taking unwilling girl to prom and both end up falling for each other), the personalities of each character still makes the movie appealing and likeable among its audience.
7. Paint scene and hay kiss
Probably the least violent game of paintball ever but also probably one of the most well-known rom-com kiss scenes.
8. '90s wardrobe
Enough said.
9. Cameron and Michael
Every good, cheesy, romantic movie has its pair of awkward and geeky friends. Plus, who wasn’t happy that Cameron and Bianca went to prom together?
