10 Things To Do When Your Summer Is Coming To A Close

AKA the worst time of the year.

10 Things To Do When Your Summer Is Coming To A Close

We all hate that time of year, when summer is coming to an end and school is right around the corner. This means early morning classes and late nights studying. The worst thing about school starting is when there are things that you wish you could do but can't because of the never ending stacks of homework and projects. So, while we can let's do the things we won't be able to come fall.

Take a day trip

If you like cheaper and stress free mini vacays then day trips are what you need to take. Having summer come to an end there is a lot to do before school starts again so day trips make the most sense. Pack a cooler full of your favorite snacks and you car full of your favorite friends and go spend the day somewhere fun.

Spend the whole day in bed

Now, I know what you’re going to say, why would I lie in bed all day when summer is coming to an end. But, when is the next time you’ll be able to do this? I mean we all can skip classes and stay in bed all day but then we have a guilty conscience and consequences. So, turn on Netflix and binge the sunny day away.

Spend quality time with friends and family

With tests and projects coming up, devoting time to your favorite people in your life becomes hard so do it while you can. Get ice cream, go see movies, and laugh a lot. Cause trust me there won’t be a lot of laughing in that Bio class you have at 8 am.

Have a cookout

Everyone loves a good cookout and this is a great way to enjoy great summer food and great conversation. Trust me, you’ll miss those hot summer nights when your waist deep in text books and snow.

Bake Bake Bake

And I don’t mean in the over. I mean get your body out into the sunshine and get as tan as possible because it will quickly fade

Treat yo self

I mean I’m sure you deserve to go out and splurge so find a reason and do it!

Read read read

Starting end of August until Christmas all we will have time to read is the textbook for the test we have each week. So, get that summer reading list you made months ago and head to Barnes & Nobles.

Turn your phone off for 24 hrs

Don’t skip over this one! Trust me you’ll thank me in the end. There is nothing more freeing than to turn your phone off for an entire day and just do whatever you want. Yes, it is possible to do this without posting what you are doing, and/or eating.

Go visit someone special

Like I’ve said, time is something we don’t have as college students so make the most of the time you have left. Go and visit the ones you’ve been meaning to see.

Deep clean your bedroom

I saved this one for last for a reason...so you couldn’t skip over it. This sounds like the last thing you want to do but it's a must do. You may even enjoy it, honestly. Cleaning out your closet can be an interesting task of finding all the things you have thrown in there all summer. A little reminiscing project.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
