10 Things To Do When You Have 10 Things To Do

I promise it's not just more stuff to do.

It has become commonplace that as you get older it's much easier to overwhelm yourself. The insane pressure that is put upon people every day (or every second) to "be better" and "do more" is frankly unbelievably ridiculous. I'd be a hypocrite if said that I didn't try to tackle a lot more than I thought I was capable of handling. However, wanting to be constantly achieving things is not a bad quality, and if you're like I am, you probably need to know what to do when it all gets to be a little much.

Here are some things to keep in mind, when you have a lot on your mind (and your to-do list):

1. Re-evaluate your list.

Take a look at what you're doing and why you are so stressed. If you're doing things that cause you to be unhappy, understand that you are not obligated to continue doing most things. There is no reason to feel guilty about stopping doing things that are taking your time, but not improving your life.

2. Take a breath.

I'm not kidding. I mean this 100 percent, literally. Take a couple deep breaths. I don't know if it's just me, but whenever my head feels blocked or heavy, I realize it's because I'm not really breathing. So, take the time to get some oxygen in your system.

3. Laugh a little bit.

When life seems to be at it's most serious is the best time to laugh. If you're feeling overwhelmed, just laugh at how stressed you are.

4. Start the most difficult thing.

If you complete the one task that's freaking you out the most, you're in the clear. All the other stuff will seem minuscule. So just suck it up and keep pushing through.

5. Forget about all of it and take some time.

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING is as important as your well-being, so if you are really feeling like you can't handle all the stuff you have to do. Don't feel guilty, just don't do it. You should always be a priority.

6. Set up a break system for yourself.

Set up an interval of times/tasks, do them, and then reward yourself. Have a treat or take a break, but just remember no one can go at top speed all the time and that's perfectly okay.

7. Exercise

If you're the kind of person who blows off steam at the gym, cool. If not, just grab your friend and some angsty music from your scene phase and jam out for a little bit. You'll feel better and will feel ready to work because you got some of your stress out physically.

8. Make sure your basic needs are covered.

Did you eat enough food today? Did you sleep? Okay. That's your first priority. Those answers should both be yes. Because you're not producing your best work if your stomach is grumbling... just saying.

9. Find something to motivate you.

Maybe you're a ted-talks kind of person? Maybe Eye of The Tiger on repeat is what does it for you. But whatever it is that motivates you, tap into it.

10. Tell yourself everything's going to be alright.

Even if you feel like you're lying. You need to believe that you can do what you want to do. If you don't support yourself, then achieving anything is going to be ten times harder and less rewarding in the long run.

When it comes to Bloomington-Normal, there are many outstanding factors that any Illinois State student can say are unique to our college town (and maybe others too). Proud or not, we Redbirds know all the ins and outs of Blono.

1. The wait for Buffalo Wild Wings is always going to be long on Thursday nights.

As hard as we try, it's nearly impossible to resist the 69-cent wings on a college student budget. Plus, they are always delicious!
