In today's society, we have everything for entertainment purposes at our fingertips. From iPads and laptops to bring us Netflix at a second's notice, to smartphones that can bring up any social media platform instantly, it seems technology is our go-to for when there is simply nothing else to do.

Social media and technology can be great, but can also have negative effects. They disconnect us from what is going on around us. If you want to feel more in-tune with the world around you, here is a list of 10 healthier options of things to do when you are bored.

1. Go for a walk

Not only is it exercise, but it gets us up and moving outdoors. Nature is our best friend, so embrace it instead of sitting indoors.

2. Do a crossword or Sudoku puzzle

These are mentally stimulating and will keep you busy for long periods of time.

3. Go to a local restaurant and order something new

If transportation and proper spending money are available, treat yourself to a new dish at a local restaurant. It is fun to experiment with new foods.

4. Read a book

I know not everyone enjoys reading, but give it a try! Find a novel that interests you, and you most likely won't be able to put it down.

5. Color

You can find adult coloring books online or practically at any local book or convenience store. They come with all sorts of designs, from relaxing henna patterns to scenes from our favorite movies (my Star Wars one is my absolute favorite).

6. Give a friend or family member a call

Instead of sitting on the couch mindlessly texting them, pick up the phone and actually have a verbal conversation. It is much more meaningful to hear someone's voice than to just see words on a screen.

7. Go window shopping

We don't all have the luxury of being able to spend money on clothes every time we get bored. However, window shopping is a nice substitute.

8. Tidy up around the house

I know cleaning is not the most fun thing ever. But if you are bored enough, it can keep you busy for a bit while also getting some chores that need done, completed.

9. Take a bath

Who doesn't love a nice long, hot bubble bath? Treat yourself in your time of boredom.

10. Redecorate

When you have nothing else to do, give in to your creative side and redecorate your bedroom or another room in the house. Even rearrange the furniture if you don't feel like full on redecorating. It will spice up your living space.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
