If you're like me, a recent college graduate without a dollar to their name, or if you're someone else who needs to keep themselves to a budget, it might be hard to find fun things to do over the summer. Well fear not, people like me or people not so much like me, here is a list of 10 things you can do this summer when sticking to a budget!

1. A day at the beach

Nothing says fun under the sun like a day at the beach! And it’s definitely one of the more fun things to do over the summer when you’re on a budget! Grab some friends, pack a cooler and don’t forget to apply some sunscreen!

2. Go for a nature walk or hike

It takes no money at all to find a quiet forest to walk through, a lake to walk by or a steep hill to climb up. Just don’t forget to pack a water bottle if it’s a hot summer day!

3. Go to a pet store and play with puppies

All you need is an ID for this one! Whether visiting an animal shelter or a pet store, those puppies need some loving while they wait for their forever home! Maybe you’ll even end up wanting to adopt one!

4. Go for a bike ride

Whether using your own bike or renting one, grab your helmet and get some exercise riding around your neighborhood or at your local bike trail!

5. A day at the pool

Whether you’re floating in your own pool, taking over your friend’s pool or taking a trip down to the community pool, it takes no money at all to spend a day under the sun. Again, don’t forget the sunscreen!

6. Stay inside and binge watch Netflix

Eight bucks a month is worth it for the hundreds of different things you can watch on Netflix! And you know there’s gonna come a summer day that is just too hot to go out and do anything or you’re just not feeling the hot air. So grab your blankets and your favorite stuffed animal and settle in for a day of Netflix.

7. Go for ice cream

Fairly cheap depending on where you go, taking a break from your busy work day for a cold treat will be worth the few bucks!

8. Tie-dye t-shirts

An activity that never gets old no matter how old you are! Tie-dye kits are fairly cheap and you and your friends can split a package of t-shirts typically sold at Walmart, just as an example.

9. Do some summer cleaning around the house

If you’re someone like me, you missed the time frame for spring cleaning because of being an overall lazy human being. So since summer is in the here and now, keep your wallets closed and spend a day cleaning out your closets or your kitchen or the suitcases you refuse to unpack since moving back home after college (your mom will probably thank you for it later).

10. Pack a picnic with your friends

Everything’s cheaper when you spilt it between friends, so everyone chip in and buy some chips, sodas and deli meats and pack a hardy picnic you could take to the beach, the park, or even that hike (at least there will be food!).

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
