10 Things To Do This Summer In Omaha

If you’re staying in Omaha over the summer, there are a lot of fun things you can do. Here’s a list of the top 10 things to do this summer.

1. College World Series

This is an obvious choice that brings the final 8 teams to Omaha to compete for first place. This year CWS will be taking place from June 17-29. To purchase tickets and for more information visit http://www.cwsomaha.com

2. Farmers Market

The Farmers Market is held in the Old Market and Aksarben Village. The Farmers Market in the Old Market will be open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. until October 15. The Farmers Market at Aksarben Village will be open every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until October 16.

You can use your debit or credit card to buy tokens at the information desk, but there is a $1 transaction fee for each token you buy. Tokens are sold in $5 increments.

If you choose to pay in cash, bring smaller bills as it makes it easier for the vendors to make change for you and other customers.

3. Monday Night Movies

Every Monday night from June 6 – July 25, there will be a free showing of a movie at Turner Park in Midtown Crossing. Turner Park opens at 5 p.m. for seating. Movies will begin at sunset. Here’s the movie lineup:

June 13: Top Gun (PG)

June 20: Film Streams Feature: Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times (G)

June 27: A League of Their Own (PG)

July 11: Ferris Bueller's Day Off (PG-13)

July 18: Guardians of the Galaxy (PG-13)

July 25: Pitch Perfect 2 (PG-13)

4. Gene Leahy Mall

The main attractions here are two big slides. Bring a piece of wax paper or a paper bag to slide down on. It’s guaranteed fun for all ages.

5. Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge

At the risk of beating a dead horse, I’m going to add this location to the list. It’s a long walk, but you can take a picture of yourself in two states at once. It’s not anything terribly special, but it’s still fun to take the picture and say that you’ve done it.

6. 19th Annual Taste of Omaha

The Annual Taste of Omaha will be held at the Heartland of America Lewis and Clark Landing from June 3-5. The outdoor food festival is free to attend.

For more information visit http://www.showofficeonline.com/TASTEHOMEPAGE.html

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
