Congratulations! You've finished another semester of college! The end of every semester always brings about feelings of relief that it's finally over and nostalgia that it's over and you're another 1/8th finished with college. The first thing you're probably going to do when you get home is catch up on all the sleep you missed out on in the last two weeks, but once you're well rested again, maybe for the first time since August, things can get kind of boring. Here are just a few things you can do to stave off boredom and actually get something out of your break.
1. Read some books.
When school is in session, it's hard to find downtime to read something you really enjoy. Take advantage of this downtime to read that book you bought in September. If you're not sure what to read, check out some of these awesome books
"Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Brontë
"Pride & Prejudice" by Jane Austen
"To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee
"Frankenstein" by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley
Any of John Green's books.
2. Watch your favorite Christmas movies.
So you hate to read. Who in the world could hate to watch Christmas movies or any movies for that matter? My favorite movies to watch around Christmastime are actually the eight "Harry Potter" movies. What's better than that?
3. Pick up a new hobby.
You've been wanting to learn about a particular hobby for forever, but haven't had time between papers that are due and your five classes that seem like they take up way way more than 15 hours a week. Take the time to learn about that hobby now!
4. Get back in shape.
Who has time to hit the gym during the last two weeks of the semester? Not me.
5. Cook actual food.
Have you been living on pizza and peanut butter and jelly for like a month? Me too. You finally have time and energy to make some actual food, do it.
6. Go visit your friends and family.
No one calls their grandma as much as they should. Pay her a visit.
7. Do something artsy.
Pick something on your crafts board on Pinterest and do it! Or if you're not a DIY kind of person, write some poetry or sketch something weird.
8. Work on learning a second language.
I totally hated having to take Spanish for general education courses, but it actually doesn't hurt to be bilingual. People who speak multiple languages have improved cognitive function and better job opportunities than their monolingual counterparts. There are apps for smartphones that actually help you learn basic words and concepts, and it's way more productive than staring at Twitter.
9. Bake cookies with your mom.
You stopped believing in Santa years ago, but your mom would still probably enjoy making some cookies on Christmas Eve.
10. Do nothing, and feel no guilt.
You shouldn't spend your whole break in your bed, but hey, you've been working really hard. Spend some time just doing nothing and enjoy not having to worry about that assignment you're putting off.
Enjoy your break, everyone!
