With these things, car rides don't have to be so bad

My whole life has consisted of traveling, which meant so much time riding in the car. One time I went from SC to Ohio and it took like 14 hours. So I've learned ways to make the rides more fun and bearable.

1. Watch a movie

Some cars have built in DVD players but even if yours doesn't and you have a laptop with a disc drive then grab your favorite movie and you won't even realize how long you've been riding.

2. Listen to music

Make a playlist, put the earphones in and lay back.

3. Color

Bring one coloring book because there are so many pages and bring markers because they won't melt.

4. Edit photos

I like photography so for me this is a perfect time to mess around with my photos.

5. Take random pictures

Whether it be pictures of others, things going on in the car, things outside the car or selfies.

6. Car games

Fun for everyone in the car: I spy, license plates, 20 questions, alphabet categories. As far as I know, games is one my family and I made up...most of the time my dad will give me and my sister a color and the person to get the designated number of items of that color, wins.

7. Do a mad lib

The stories and laughs are worth the ride.

8. Read a book

This will only last a little while for me because for some odd reason I begin to feel sick. But if it works for you then who knows how many books you can get through.

9. Eat

Some of my favorite road snacks are Slim Jims, Rice Krispies, most chips, and one of the best creations ever- Chex Mix muddy buddies cookies and creme. Just be smart in preparing what to bring, make sure it won't melt.

10. Sleep

This is my favorite because you feel like you've been going longer than you actually have. Plus for me, I get to catch up on the sleep I've missed and get to do nothing.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
